LENS LINES A little religion on a positive note By Len Granger
God Is Dead
That is a startling statement, but last year about this time, we were greeted by highway billboards here in northern California, stating "We Do Not Need God" or God is Dead. " These signs had to have been funded by a well organized group as the cost was probably enormous.
What were they saying in their message to millions of Californians and others that saw the advertisements? Remember we were well into the national depression that was effecting all of our lives, and their message to us came about the same time our President had said "We no longer are a Christian nation to the world".
Where had we gone wrong? Were we in full belief of the statement, which I have never found in the bible, "God Helps Those That Help Themselves"?. Did the signs say we do not need God to get us out of the depression?
Or did the signs say, "God you let us down", when in fact we have let God down and out of our lives for many years. Our great country was founded by God fearing and God praising men but it seems as a nation we have turned away from God after World War 11. We have had generations of prosperity and now think we control our own destiny. We turned to Uncle Sam as the provider of all, and state government took over functions the churches once performed. The education system became a haven for teachers and professors that were against God and the children did not see a home that was Godly, so they were confused as their life moved on.
So today were are we? Are we looking to God for answers and putting our faith in him or are we looking to a bankrupt government system, that is now turning back to the churches for help? Yes, distributing of food to the needy may soon be a function of the churches, with people helping people.
The bible says , Love your neighbor as your brother, and we pray everyone will join together in asking God to lift us out of the hard times we are facing. God Bless America
