For every choice, there is consequence. Every day, we progress forward into the future, and it seems we don’t stop to consider the price for it. I think this is because the benefits of progress outweigh the consequences. We chose to move forward, but what will this cost us? I think that if we progress too far too fast, we will start to lose ourselves. We will become a race of people whose lives run on technology, where some jobs are no longer existent. For example, today in factories, more and more machines are used to produce things, they do jobs people do. There are many people out there who don’t have the opportunity to have access to progress, what would happen to them? If this was a world that was run solely on progress, then they would likely not seem very important to us.
I believe that progress does not have to be filled with consequence, if we take a break to reach out to those who need a hand, and then surely our future would be better. The future is so unknown, but we should step into it, and reach out for new possibilities and cures so everyone will benefit from it. When children are reading their history books about this age, wouldn’t you want them to remember us for the bravery, kindness, and selflessness that we could show instead of a selfish, greedy, and brutal environment some people live through? Personally I’d prefer the former. All throughout history, we have had our moments where we were kind and brave or where we were selfless and worked towards a better society.
The kind of future that we want will be hard work, but if we don’t work for it then the future we will get may be unwanted and unfair. Yet, the future is not decided yet, we still have a choice.
