Let me first say to those who lost loved ones in 911 and those who have lost loved ones to war as the result of 911 that I am deeply saddened by your loss. I mourn with you, and pray that the greatest Comforter of all, our Lord Jesus Christ, comforts you. I pray that the Father wraps His loving arms around you and fills your heart with the peace that surpasses understanding.
As today, many will honor those who died in the 911 attacks; we should realize that the greatest way we can honor them is by honoring God first. Only God who can bring true healing to those who are hurting and to nations that are experiencing great difficulties. As a people, we can bring healing to the land by turning to the God of the Bible. God plainly states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14, KJV). As believers who live in America, we need to remember that our number One Love has to be the Lord Jesus Christ (see “The American Church Or The Church At America?”), otherwise this nation may lose its greatness.
The quickest way for a nation to rise up is to follow righteousness. Proverbs 14:34 tells us, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (KJV). It does not matter who is in office, or how great a nation may have become, if that nation’s people forget God, it will fail to be great. By forgetting God, we would be dishonoring those who died. A nation in ruin does not honor its dead. As we remember those who perished on 911 and beyond, let us honor them by honoring God first.
