Sunday 8/14/11 Pastor Michael=It Had To Happen!! Matt 26:36-39, Matt 26:40-46
==================================================
Vs. 41 “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” No matter how long you have been saved or how many churches you have attended….the flesh is still weak!!
There are some things in life that just have to happen These are traumas and crisis that happen to us. Years later when we think of them, we will be reminded of the pain. Any trauma or crisis in our lives leave an imprint on our souls. Some of these things had to happen! Many of us would not be sitting in church today if we hadn’t gone thru traumas in our life. When we were out doing “our own thing”, God allowed stuff to happen to us to bring us back to Him. Many of us now have our sanity today because the power of God kept us sane. We stretched out our hand to God for Strength!!
It had to happen!! It happened and it caused us to praise! Praise instead of crying! We ought to thank God that it happened! If that man or woman had not left us, we would not have found out that we can do it alone with Jesus on our side! We don’t need anybody but Jesus! So it had to happen!
This is how we found the truth that we can do all things thru Christ that strengthens us!
Every now and then God allows us a trauma so we can begin to make significant changes. People don’t like change and its usually when trauma or crisis happens that they will make a big change. Its good for us to go thru stuff so we can trust God more!! We lose the job so we can see that God is our source of income, not the job! It had to happen so we learn to depend on God!!
Some people close to us have hurt us and its then that we learn to trust God more. Don’t trust every smile from folk. Don’t hang with everybody because they may want to stab us in the back! Don’t tell folk all your business right away when you first meet them. You are not desperate for a friend! Let people figure you out for themselves. Jesus had some disciples hat would betray him and deny him. We can learn from Jesus how to do things.
1) Jesus has the Privacy of Prayer: vs. 36-39
Jesus left the disciples to pray alone. His close disciples could only go so far with him. There is some stuff we go thru that only God will understand. We have to have a private prayer life with God. We need to stay in our private place of prayer and in God’s presence. Some people we will have to leave behind and press forward in prayer. Vs. 3 Jesus was distressed and so sorrowful that he felt close to death. We can also feel this way, We feel crushed- feeling its all too much to handle. There is some stuff God is trying to get out of us and we are crushed.
Olives from the olive tree are crushed and the olive oil comes out. We are like the crushed olives and the oil comes out and we are blessed and changed for the better. We are like the olives in that the crushing has to take place so the oil will flow- the anointing. The anointing will flow--the power of God will flow in us. The crushing is what we need. Its not going to kill us but will move us to our next level. It has to happen!! We would not have the praise and victory if we had not gone thru the crushing!!
2) Jesus has the Presence of Prayer:
As Jesus was praying, He says he feels like he is going to die vs. 39. Jesus was depressed at this moment because He was feeling all the sins of the world beginning to cave in on him. Cave in on Him.!Sometimes the pressure makes us feel like God has forgotten us and forgotten how little we are and how we can only take so much! Jesus went to God under pressure and stayed in God’s presence. God made Jesus feel better. Press- for- sure = Pressure! Our only escape is in God’s presence!!
When pressure hits-goes thru some different types of pipes, instead of the pipe exploding, it Expands! Jesus grew thru the pressure because he came out of his prayer by saying “not my will but thy will be done”!!
3) Jesus has the Permanency of Prayer:
Jesus didn’t let the disciples being asleep stop him from going back to his praying to God. Three times Jesus came back and they were asleep. Jesus kept praying =permanent prayer. Prayer is the only constant thing that helps us.
AMEN
