No one can deny that scents and fragrances are emotionally enhancing, spiritually uplifting and can even be awe inspiring. Make no mistake; perfumery is indeed an art form. Scents are to fragrances as a pallet of colors are to a painting; as herbs and spices are to the culinary art of fine cuisine; and as musical notes are to a haunting melody that floats throughout an ocean of symphonic harmonies.
In the elusive world of Perfumery the great masters who create them are often a mystery, cloaked behind the more familiar House and Brand names who employ them such as: the French powerhouse Chanel, famous for its Chanel No. 5; Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Dior, Lancôme, Halston and Cartier to name a few. Most of who also produce designer clothing and accessories as well as world class perfumes.
Allow me to recommend some more recent creations and brands that I have found captivating and hard to forget – dare I say “unforgettable”. Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture is a sweet tantalizing fragrance for women of all ages that is particularly alluring when the sun goes down.
Womanity is explosive, powerful and beautiful. Made by Thierry Mugler, who also makes the controversial Angel. I recommend Womanity for women over 30.
Eau de Mervilles by Hermes has become one of my favorites. It’s long-lasting and so pretty I feel like I’m walking on air with happy bubbles following me around. It’s for women of all ages who enjoy flaunting their girliness! It’s so easy to fall in love with French perfumes. The next one I look forward to trying is Hermes’ Osmanthe Yunnan, created by their in-house perfumer the legendary Jean-Claude Ellena. According to perfume critic Tania Sanchez, co-author Perfumes The Guide, “It’s pure happiness, beautiful from start to finish, and unforgettable.”
I would also like to recommend a few standard feminine fragrances that have been around a while. Chanel No. 5 by Chanel, Angel by Thierry Mugler and Tresor by Lancôme, are long time standards in the perfume world.
I haven’t forgotten about you guys. Here are some fairly new released fragrances for men:
Topping the list is: Chanel’s – Bleu. This fragrance is just so elegant and beautiful I’m sure women will be tempted to try it. But then some fragrances are unisex. Bleu conjures up that refined appeal that some men are just born with.
Dolce & Gabbana’s – The One Gentlemen is a very comfortable and beautiful fragrance.
Here are a few masculine standards. Nicolai’s – New York. Perfume critic Luca Turin, co-author Perfumes – The Guide, ranks it in the top 10 of all time great masculine fragrances. He wore it for an entire decade!
Bond No. 9 – Great Jones, “The smell of a fellow you could count on,” according to Perfume Critic Tania Sanchez.
Dior’s – Dior Homme - 5 Star - Perfumes The Guide.
Guerlain’s - Habit Rouge – 5 Star - Perfumes The Guide.
The next time you’re out shopping, don’t overlook the affordable luxury of perfumes. There’s something for everyone’s budget. Most can be found at department stores at your local malls. Don’t be afraid to ask for a sample so you can try it out for a few days.
Hermes fragrances are mainly found at specialty shops or check out their website at Hermes.com. They also offer vogue designer accessories.
