The king then gave orders and they brought those men who had maliciously accused Daniel, and they cast them, their children and their wives into the lions den and they had not the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all of their bones. (Daniel 6:24)
The king was powerless to deliver Daniel but there was no law in place forbidding him to deal justly with evil doers. That was part of God’s purpose for rulers. (Romans 13: 1-3). If there was any doubt that a miracle occurred on behalf of Daniel, consider the absence of one toward his accusers. Spurgeon remarked that the reason the lions did not eat Daniel was because “half of him was grit and the other half backbone” Of course we know the real reason.
Darius completed his action with a proper declaration concerning the God of Daniel. The decree was that all nations should fear and tremble before the God of Daniel. Notice what he said about God:
1.He is the living God and endures forever.
2. His kingdom will not be destroyed but will be everlasting..
3.He delivers, rescues, and performs signs and wonders.
4.He rescued Daniel from the lions den which confirmed His greatness.
The chapter ends by explaining to us Daniel’s legacy. His influence and greatness extended through the kingdoms of Darius and Cyrus the Great. We are never too old for God to use and bring blessings to others.
