Then the king gave orders, and Daniel was brought in and cast into the lion’s den. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Your God whom you constantly serve will himself deliver you” (Daniel 6:16)
There was no doubt that Daniel’s God was living and active. It was displayed in Daniel’s life. Now the true test, like his friends faced in the fiery furnace, is facing Daniel. Could God do it again? Darius encouraged Daniel with these final words “Your God Will Deliver”. How did Darius know? He had no previous experience in seeing God’s power at work. I think that it was God speaking through Darius offering Daniel this needed word of hope
As he was thrown into the den, what do you think he might have thought? We can only imagine. “Where are the lions? When are they going to strike? How shall I prepare myself? Why is it they are taking so long? As the hours prolonged, it must have been sheer agony to know when it was about to happen. “Maybe, he thought that there are no lions at all,” but as daybreak emerged he saw that there were indeed lions and God had sent His angel, just like he did to his friends in the fiery furnace, and shut their mouths..
There are times when things seem impossible and all that we have to lean on is God himself. I like the song sung by Greater Vision that says “When the only thing on your side is God, then I ask you, who else do you need?” Daniel started his journey of faith when he was young. Through the years, his God experiences prepared him to face the den of lions bravely and confidently. God did the rest.
