The Christian world has long since associated the Sand Dollar with Jesus Christ. To examine this theory, first let’s study the scientific facts about the Sand Dollar.
•The common name for the Sand Dollar is Starfish.
•Its shell surface is rigid, flattened or disk shaped.
•It’s made of firmly united plates lying beneath the thin skin.
•The mouth is centered on the oral under surface
•Tube feet are similar to those in other echinoderms and used for locomotion and to convey small food particles to the mouth.
From this writer’s observation:
•Sand Dollars are disk-like in shape.
•A center impression resembles the Star of David
•It is pleasing to the eye.
•It seems to generate an aura, as if it knows the secrets of the universe.
Now, let’s look at the Legend of the Sand Dollar. Legend has it that the birth and death of Jesus can be traced in a Sand dollar. There are four nail holes and a fifth one that seems to be made as if from a Roman’s Spear. On one side you can see the Easter lily; the center is the star that appeared to the Wise men; the Christmas poinsettia seems to be etched on the other side of the shell and this reminds us of Jesus’ birth. If you break the center of shell open you will see five white doves that are said to spread good will and peace.
I have personally witnessed these things in a Sand Dollar and it is remarkable. When you think about it, God left His blueprint everywhere. In the sea alone the enormous amount of sea-life is astounding. A variety of fish and vegetation is too large to count and the vibrant colors and assorted designs on these creatures are too numerous to count.
Now, you may not believe in the legend or even that God has His hand in creation, but that’s okay. However, I do invite you to open a Sand Dollar sometime and I am sure you will be amazed at what you will find below its unassuming surface.
