Apologetics
And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Proverbs 23:2
The word "glutton" is found twice in the KJV (Deuteronomy 21:20; Proverbs 23:21). Similarly, the word "gluttonous" is found twice in the KJV (Matthew 11:19; Luke 7:34). When we look up "glutton" in a Bible dictionary and other similar references, we see that the word means something far deeper than just someone eating too much at a meal.
In the Unger's Bible Dictionary, we learn that "glutton" means, "(Hebrew from zalal, "to shake," hence to "be loose" morally). A debauchee (Deuteronomy 21:20; Proverbs 23:21); "gluttonous" (Proverbs 23:20; 28:7), meaning a free liver, one who is unrestrained (Matthew 11:19; Luke 7:34)" (p. 480). In Greek, the term is "phagos", meaning an eater, a glutton. A third definition of "glutton" is from the Holman Bible Dictionary. "...greedy and voracious eating... Associated with stubbornness, rebellion, disobedience, drunkenness, and wastefulness (Deuteronomy 21:20).... good-for-nothing is reflected as, "wastrel", "profligate", "riotous". When Jesus was accused of being "a glutton and a drunkard" (Matthew 11:19) it was in this expanded sense of being one given to loose and excessive living. Gluttony makes one sleepy, leads to laziness, and eventually to poverty (Proverbs 23:21)." (p. 656).
I have a great sense within myself tonight that the term “glutton” applies also to those who gorge themselves on the idle words of so called and popular ministers and ministries in the world of today. I think that people have filled their bellies to capacity and that the excess is running out all over their neighbors, friends, relatives and families and even strangers. They have found the greed gospel tastes great and that the prosperity so often preached is as a lottery game from Heaven, when in actuality it nothing more than spiritual suicide from pseudo spiritual food laced with Satan’s arsenic.
You can call in and get a prayer cloth; you can get a packet or pouch of water, or a bag of salt, a prayer shawl and a shofar or a yamaka. You can get fed on how Jews are saved by the Torah (LAW) and not by the Blood of Jesus, you can get fed on the idea that Jesus was not the Messiah and even learn to pray to the dead while you are at it. While you are at it read one of the “knock-off” interpretations of God’s Word such as the MESSage bible, living bible, niv bible, esv, cev , nkjv or others. Read the gospel according to Judith and other material, sure to make you a man, woman or child of satan….
STRONG WORDS…. Well. When anything denigrates Jesus in any way or the Holy Spirit or takes away from or adds to what God wrote originally, then it is nothing more than a tool of Satan designed to kill the sheep and their gluttonous desires will kill them and is killing them.
Do we walk after the flesh or after the Spirit? Are we really seeking to be all that Christ wants us to be or are we looking to be high and lifted up as if we are a super spiritual creature who “is with the in crowd”? What we need to be, we cannot make of ourselves. Unfortunately, almost all the teaching and preaching on this subject is just that—self trying to sanctify self. “Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh?” (Galatians 3:3).
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:1-9
What are we eating and ingesting spiritually? Notice I never said ‘digesting’ for what these cotton candy vendors, snake oil salesman and charlatans peddle is nothing digestible. It seems to be either regurgitated or evacuated in an abnormal manner. The consequences of this concoction is as that of a woman who thinks she is fat and eats and then makes herself puke; or by taking laxatives and etc., either leads to bulimia or to anorexia, either which is deadly.
What do you ingest that is not a spiritual mess? Is it a thing, place, person, desire, habit, TV, movie, cartoon, book, placing people, family or issues above what is normal and acceptable?
If the Holy Spirit would not be present then you do not need to do it. When I was a child just as all children, I “tested my wings” as the saying goes but my parents did not condone what I was doing. They found it and stopped it either by removing the threat from me or me from the threat. Any person, parent, minister or etc., who allows, anyone to entertain their hearts and minds with other than the Holy Spirit and His fruits is doing themselves a disservice as judgment awaits and as well is doing the person an injustice as they are filling themselves with other than Jesus. It all fits hand in hand and is very important to our souls, Christian witness and eternal destination.
Gluttony will be paid for in one way or another – either here at the foot of the cross or at the great white throne judgment.
