She wakes up---cacti winking---mountains singing---and the sun raging through the skylights of her bedroom ceiling. The dry air blows, waking her senses- it’s time to get out of bed.
The coffee is hot. She pours it into her favorite mug- the one that says, “Arizona” on it. Jesus is waiting by the patio lounge. She gives Him a kiss and thanks Him for the day which He has made and starts rejoicing and being glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
He shows His love by never missing an appointment and opens His arms, “I love you because you love Me, and because you seek Me, you find Me.” (Proverbs 8:17) He corrects and compassionately teaches her how to live a righteous life. (Proverbs 2:12) She opens His Word and meditates on His promises. “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of age,” she reads in Matthew 28:20. “I will do something in your lifetime that you won’t believe even when you are told about it”, He tells her in Habakkuk 1:5b. She perks up. And it’s not the coffee. No trial can diminish the sweetness of His presence in her life. Not even her longings that may or may not be.
“Do not remember the sins and wrong things I did when I was young, but remember to love me always because you are good”, she prays. (Psalm 25:7) A coyote seconds that; a howling echoes over the waterless land as Jesus casts her sins into His Deep Sea of forgetfulness. (Hebrews 10:17) She is forever loved. Her life is in His hands. (Psalm 31:15) Nothing can take away the peace He has chiseled on her heart. (John 14:27)
“The person who is right with Me will live by trusting Me,” He tells her in Hebrews 10:38. He smiles and gives her a hug; anyone who trusts in Me will never be disappointed! (1 Peter 2:6b) She is filled with a joy that cannot be explained, a joy full of glory. (1 Peter 1:8b) He is working in her to help her to do and be able to do what pleases Him. (Philippians 2:13) He makes her wise and shows her where to go. He guides and watches over her. (Psalm 32:8) She’s protected. He hides her under the shadow of His wings. (Psalm 17:8)
A sudden breeze creates a small tornado of dust. It blows by her. And she clears her throat before saying,” The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need!” (Psalm 23:1) Beautiful words fill her mind. Her tongue is like the pen of a skilled writer. (Psalm 45:1) She prays, “God examine me and know my heart; test me and know my nervous thoughts. See if there is any bad thing in me. Lead me on the road to everlasting life.” (Psalm 139:23-24) He answers, “My child, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in mind. Then you will live a long time, and your life will be successful.” (Proverbs 3:1-2)
The desert claps. Her heart rejoices. Her day continues. Happy is she who keeps His rules, who tries to obey Him with her whole heart. (Psalm 119:2) His love continues forever. (Psalm 118:2b) And she is content. (I Timothy 6:6) Patiently, she lives knowing that He makes everything go as He pleases. (Proverbs 16:4)
When I wake up, I will see your likeness and be satisfied. Psalm 17:15b
In Jesus’ name, Amen
