I miss the smell of baby poop,
and diapers in the trash,
sleepless nights and baby cries,
and never enough cash.
I miss the laughter and baby smell
of lotions on tender skin,
the splashing in a bubble bath,
the quiver of a baby’s chin.
The thrill of each new word learned,
the joy when each tooth comes in,
the way I’d feel so very proud,
and struggle to hold it in.
I think I even sometimes miss,
interruptions when I’m on the phone.
I don’t have to yell “Be quiet”!
for it’s no longer a noisy home.
Yes, there are so many things I miss,
and I hold them as blessed treasures.
I thank God for all the memories,
unequaled among life’s pleasures!
