Some countries call it Independence Day others look upon it as ‘Occupation Day’. Many countries think of their independence as freedom from someone or something. Really, freedom is a state of mind. Do you really believe man can bring you independence? If some person tells you; on this day of 2011, we fought and died in the pursuit of freedom, you would believe them. Look at the whole picture, see that people struggling for food and water. Hear the people calling out to end occupation. Escaped sex slave stories captivate the senseless treatment of women around the world. The use of drugs either illicit or prescription have addicted the society into numbness. We are a class of non-thing zombies glued to TV, Movies, Social Media, satisfying our aspiration of self-aggrandizement. How can one country call for independence when it consumes more than it produces? Idolatry of self or county or the world has not brought anyone to freedom. No, Idolatry keeps one captive to his or her own desires.
One country celebrates its independence by occupation of other countries. Therefore, when military operations end for Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and now Somalia can, the people of those countries stand proudly and say Independence has been delivered.
No, for people of this planet, independence is the belief that Man can deliver you to freedom. However, the world is not the place I want to experience Mans freedom. I search for the presence of God where the light of truth is freedom. That brings self-control and peace with like-minding people relying on the ineffable presence of God. Only through Him can we reach freedom not through war or money.
O Lord have mercy on these people and let the light of truth stand not for independence but for interdependence on You for mercy and grace abounds over any counties Independence Day.
