As I think of the privilege and the responsibility of raising a child, I am humbled to think of all the things I must teach you. With ABCís and 123's, and looking both ways before you cross the street, and eating all your vegetables, and donít hit your brother, and sit up straight, how shall I, also fearfully and wonderfully made, begin to tell you of the infinite mysteries of the CREATOR of the universe?
I know I will teach you that dogs bark, and chickens lay eggs, and cows moo, and butterflies were once caterpillars. Yet it is more my concern that I help you to understand the simple yet profound truth, that God is as real as birds that sing, and cats that meow, and the sun that shines, and yet. . . . though you cannot see Him, He is more real than even those.
Since all of eternity will not be time enough to tell you even the half of His story, I should start now. Words are not adequate to describe the INDESCRIBABLE, and yet that are all that I have to give you now. When you get here, then I can show you some of His handiwork.
But where do I start oh, child of mine? Where to begin? I do not know you. You are without form, and there is emptiness in me as I wait for you. You will grow and move in darkness until you come to the light, at your appointed time. I know not the day the LORD shall place you in my arms, but today, as I write this, JESUS knows the day you will enter the world with a cry, and yet that will not be your beginning. For our ETERNAL GOD has seen you and me and that moment in time since Genesis 1:1.
Before time was - He knew you.
The world began like you. Without form.
In the beginning, GOD created ALL of the animals, ALL of the trees, ALL of the plants, and EVERYTHING that swims in the oceans, flies through the air, and shines in the sky He spoke into being. You may wonder how He could create all this in six days. My dear, He is full of wonder.
But mom, what about me you may ask. Ah, you my dear, are special. You are created in His image. You are shaped and formed by the very hand of GOD.
You - He touched.
The very first person was a man named Adam. The Lord God formed him from the dust of the ground, and then the bible says that God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. That always takes my breath away when I think of that!
God in His wisdom told Adam that it was not good for him to be alone, and so He made Adam sleep really deep and removed one of his ribs. (Iíll show what and where ribs are when you get here.)
From this rib God created a woman and Adam later named her Eve. He placed them in the garden of Eden and told them they could eat anything except the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the middle of garden.
Now, it is my understanding that one day you will want to eat dirt and bugs and other things. But, my dear Kiersten, though everything was good when God created it, I donít believe God ever wanted us to eat creepy crawlies. I do not want you to be afraid of 12 legged winged creatures that make buzzing noises, but I do so pray that you will love looking at them from afar. It would be even better that you learn to touch them only in pictures, and exercise your God-given authority to step on them, swat them down, and sweep them out the door whenever they would dare to cross your path. I do believe that I shall scream and become faint if I should see you wearing lizards as earrings or letting a roly-poly play hide and seek in your hands.
But I digress.
I am feeling tired like Adam now. I will tell you more later.
I have time.
After all for now you are only a prayer of my heart.
