Why are you bothered

Donít I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous-Matthew 20:15 NIV

The topic of the water cooler conversation was that of a new employee. One of the comments made was "how can he hire him", which was really more of a question than a comment. The person that they were referring to was none other than the CAO's own son. This utter disgust was a mutual feeling for most of this young man's new co-workers; which in my opinion was very unfortunate.

Why is it that some people find themselves reacting negatively when a courtesy (whether professional or personal) is extended to someone other than themselves? Is it because they've gotten so caught up in figuring out the hows and whys? Or is it simply out of jealously? Well according to James 3:16 (where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion) its a combination of both.

Harold Coffin said it best "envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own".
