THE PROBLEMS SURROUNDING LEADERSHIP
By Henry Jaegers
Then the commissioners and satraps began trying to find ground of accusation against Daniel in regard to government affairs; but they could find no ground of accusation or evidence of corruption, inasmuch as he was faithful, and no negligence or corruption was to be found in him. (Daniel 6:4)
Daniel immediately found favor with the new king and was appointed president over all of his officers. One would suppose that they would be grateful for what they had, but there were some who were envious over Danielís position and thought themselves more worthy or qualified. It is not unusual to find this happening as it seems to be part of the baggage that comes with being a good leader. It was not long before a group of likeminded dissidents formed to destroy Daniel.
Firs, they attacked his qualifications. They tried inexperience but since he was in his eighties, lack of experience didnít fit. Second they attacked his character but he was blameless there. He was faithful to his God and he was protected by that, Next they became creative by persuading the king to sign a bill forbidding anyone to worship any god but him. Of course the king was flattered by such a request and gladly signed the bill, not understanding the motives and consequences.
They watched carefully to see when Daniel prayed to his God and took him and brought him before the king, who was forced into making a decision that he did not wish to keep, but was bound by the law to act upon it.
Good leaders as well as bad ones will be opposed. Even faithful Daniel was falsely accused. God will take care of you during these distressing times as He did Daniel.
