If Jesus came to Your Church
By Rev. Dean Beaty 5/22/11
Taken from a portion of a statement by Vance Havner
If Christ were in your church and sitting next to you,
How would you pay attention and just what would you do?
Would you receive the kernel or just chew on the hull?
Would you start at eleven sharp and leave at twelve quite dull?
Too often in the service we look to see whose there.
Do we greet each other just to see what clothes they wear.
Is church a casual time just to sit and see the show?
If Jesus sat beside you would you learn more than you know?
One balances their checkbook while another sends a text.
With advancements in technology, I wonder what is next.
I see the bottled water as if we’re in a drought.
I wonder if we really know what worship’s all about.
Some come for entertainment and we do not let them down.
Do we come to worship God? Does God’s glory there abound.
If Christ was in your presence in Sunday morning church,
Would He find true worship or leave empty from the search?
Do we mumble out the words to the song the people sing?
Or with vitality do our praise to God we bring?
If Christ was in the service sitting next to you,
I’ve only just this comment; my friend He is, it’s true.
