When I said I love you,
It was for now and for later,
For whether our lives became worse or greater.
When I said I love you,
It was for come hell or high water,
Scorching heat, freezing temps, no matter.
When I said I love you,
It was for times of plenty or when things got thin,
For slow times or times so fast, it makes your head spin.
When I said I love you,
It was for when time would usher in change,
That compels us to grow, and for love, cause us to rearrange.
When I said I love you,
It was for when one or both of us would make mistakes,
And still tenderly embrace, though our hearts ached.
When I said I love you,
It was for times of loss or gain, laughter or tears,
Tender moments, happy days, or weary years.
When I said I love you,
I knew not what things we would go through,
All I knew is that I wanted to spend my life with you.
