Your Dream or God's?

Are you where you want to be in your life? Have you achieved what you wanted to at the age you are now? Well before you even think about those questions, let me ask you another question; one of greater importance: Are you living your dream or God’s dream for you?

Don’t be baffled with that question. It is quite common for us to get caught up on becoming what the world expects us to become in life. From a very young age we are groomed to seek careers and opportunities that will provide us a good living, status in society, etc. The world we live in does not put the focus on us keeping our eyes on the sparrow, Jesus Christ. Many Christians feel that God doesn’t care what we become in life as long as we keep his commandments and treat others the way we want to be treated. And some Christians will even go further and say that we are not supposed to seek God’s guidance on every little decision we make in life. However, on the contrary God’s word teaches the exact opposite: “But seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and His Righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33). I know what you are thinking. You feel that you do seek the Kingdom of Heaven and all His righteousness first in your life. But how can you seek God’s Kingdom and all His Righteousness first if you don’t ask Him for His guidance in all that you do? When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we have made a commitment; one to follow His guidance and direction in every aspect of our lives forever.

We can’t have some of Jesus in our lives, and have Him guide and lead us when we deem necessary. If we live like that we are what you call “luke-warm Christians; not cold or hot. And we don’t want to be luke-warm Christians! It’s all of Him or none at all: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” (Revelations 3:15-16).

I think it’s only fair to say that we live in a society where we spend most of our lives becoming what the world wants us to become and not what God has planned for us. And to say the least, our biggest problem with pursuing God’s will and following His guidance is our own free will. Have you ever admitted to yourself that your own free will is how you ended up in a bad situation; one full of turmoil and hurt?

If you love God, you will seek His direction and follow the plan he has for you in everything you do. Don’t let the illusions of Satan confuse you and lead you down the wrong path. This world we live in focuses on prosperity of monetary values only; encouraging people to believe that happiness is about money, gaining things of materialistic values, status, etc. Even some charismatic Christian leaders of today speak strongly about monetary value as if that’s all knowing our Lord and Savior is about. Of course God wants His people to be prosperous but prosperity is not just about becoming profitable with possessing riches. And what good are all the riches in the world if you lose sight in where you are going? We as Christians must be very careful and not become confused with what God’s word is teaching us: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Why not begin it by praying to God and asking Him to show you what his plan is for you? He can’t wait to hear your prayer because nothing pleases God more than His people seeking to do His will.
