Being a Father
By Rev. Dean Beaty 6/10/11 (3 daughters & 10 grandchildren)
Psalm 127:3-5 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children
of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” (KJV)
A father is a husband with children on the side.
All he ever wanted was to please his blushing bride.
His only title then was Mister, Dear and Sir.
Then the kids showed up and his life became a blur.
He never wanted power nor fortune, much less fame.
Now there’s a preponderance of those who bear his name.
How did this whole thing happen to a once peace-loving man?
All he ever wanted was his wife, not some large clan.
Once past the initial shock and he got back on his feet,
The task of being dad he now would have to meet.
So many things were new; like diapers and a crib.
Just think it all got started with just a single rib.
Now he must be Solomon to answer each concern.
And if he has a daughter, it goes on till in an urn.
A million different tasks, these are his brand new quest.
Just like a worker bee; he’ll die to get some rest.
But his rewards are great though his energy they sap.
Rewarded with a kiss from a miss upon his lap.
Or when junior asks for help to fix his first flat tires.
He has all of these memories stored up when he retires.
