“I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, for You Yourself have taught me” [Psalm 119.102 NASB]
In this verse, David restated the truth he had previously discovered and understood. There he had chosen to avoid every evil path and here he says that he had decided not to turn away from God's edicts.
Here is a simple and at the same time a profound truth. When we choose to turn away and disobey God's word we automatically enter into the evil realm, where we will walk, for a time, in the paths of wickedness.
How can we avoid entering into the domain of darkness? We all need, whether we know it or not, private teaching, instruction and revelation from God.
What enabled David not to turn away from God's word, when face to face with extraordinarily strong temptations and adverse circumstances? From His word, God had given him insight, wisdom, understanding and revelation.
At a time of crisis in John the apostle's life, the Lord appeared to Him and instructed him on what was actually taking place behind the veil and how to live in the light of this revealed knowledge [Rev. 1:9-20].
How does God draw us out of our spiritual complacency? He reveals Jesus to us and this re-activates our hunger.
What is the key that we need? ...not revelation itself but captivation! When He is first then everything else will fall into place. [David McArdle]
