Nowadays peace is hard to come by in our war-plagued world: personal peace, family peace, world peace, etc. Harping and carping are our middle names. Not many seem to value peace and harmony. Are belligerence and discord more fun? Are dueling swords more productive than calm reasoning together to reach common agreement? Small wonder that we make little progress politically, scholastically, financially, nationally or personally. Straight furrows are not plowed by horses pulling in opposite directions. In fact, nothing of much use happens. We are stymied and still in the same place. What on earth is going on? Why is this so pervasive? Are we so obsessed with the love of money, power and popularity that we have ruled out decency, progress and the common good? It gives bedlam a bad name.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, let’s stop yelling and bellowing and beating our chests long enough to see that we are destroying our nation and ourselves. Even the media present us as well-educated, intelligent heathens with little care for one another. We didn’t get this way overnight, and it seems to me we are getting mighty close to the jumping-off place. Please, please, let’s slow down and calm ourselves and see each other as fellow human beings and not enemies before we reach the point of no return. Seemingly this is a worldwide curse with unrest everywhere on the planet. Let’s try to lead the way back to loving God and one another in our little corner of the world. It needs for sure to start somewhere, and where better than here?
