REMOVING THE MASK
By Henry Jaegers
Yet you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this. (Daniel 5; 22)
Belshazzar has been pretending all of the time. He pretended to forget all that God had done in the life and reign of Nebuchadnezzar. People who do not wish to face truth suppress it by ignoring, denying or pretending to forget it. It is obvious from the above verse that Daniel needed to remove the mask that Belshazzar was hiding behind before he could declare the truth. The words, “though you knew”, reveals that behind all of the lies that held him, was the all seeing all knowing God of truth. God also knows everything we try to hide from about ourselves.
Daniel clearly reviewed the past history of what preceded Belshazzar, pointing out that there were important matters that he should have remembered, but in fact, purposely erased it from his mind. Now Daniel removes the mask and faces him with the reality and the consequences of neglect.
In our sharing the gospel with others, sometimes removing the mask of lies and deception is necessary to allow them to experience the true freedom that Christ offered to His followers. We live in a world enslaved by false ideas and in order to free them we must be free ourselves. Finding the way out of slavery requires one who has been set free from the lies and deception. Once God has removed the mask from us, we shall see clearly to remove the mask that others are hiding behind.” The truth shall set you free” Is a promise that God honors. Are there any dark areas of your mind that you need to deal with? Your deliverance will enable you to deliver others
