TEARS IN MY EYES
I was born blind
A terrible disease in the land;
Years on end I wept and begged with my cane
Only God could know the depth of my pain
After many years of sorrow and utter darkness
The joy of children playing added to my unhappiness
My fate was sealed for a sin I did not know
Life was unfair, this I did know.
I was on the street begging for a penny
When I heard the rumble of legs so many;
I asked a fellow, “What is the matter?”
He answered” it is the man that walks on water!”
Then I cried out, “have mercy on me oh my Lord”
“he won’t hear you in this crowd, not even if he was God.”
So I shouted louder, “Son of David”
But the crowd was mad at my deed.
A sudden silence fell on the crowd;
As they gathered around me like a thick cloud;
“What do you want me to do for you?”
Is he speaking to me? I don’t believe it is true!
Was it my blindness or my excited passion
That made him stand before me in deep compassion?
I could not care any more
For his presence was overwhelming, intensely so.
I was wondering what I will ask him to do for me;
I wanted so desperately to see
The face of the man, my Messiah
Whose love was not for the highest buyer.
My eyes were not hurt by the sun
For the first thing I saw was God’s Son!
This was my greatest act of worship -
These tears from my eyes are not cheap!
Matt 20:27-34
