Every day, the horrors of the world leap out at me from the headlines and blare into our family room via television and/or the website. Terrorists attack kill nearly 200 in European capital city…North Koreans build a nuclear weapon….American viciously murdered in Baghdad…Mother drowns children in the Houston area…Insurance Commissioner may be guilty of wrongdoings. Sometimes my hope for our world get so weak it almost dies that is when I turn to Psalm 46. I read it over and over again until gradually, like an Army tank, I feel resistant enough to fight any small arms attack. I sense my Heavenly Father’s omnipotent power and strength. “We will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress…He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear…”
As I read the Psalm then prayed for comfort in a sea turmoil and turbulence, I began to know, deep within my heart and soul that God’s love is infinitely more powerful than all of the hatred, darkness, fear and evil that exists in the world. After praying and reading over the verse, I am finally able to let go of that which troubles me and absorb the wisdom of verse: “Be still, and know that I am God.” My once shaken hope is healed and restored.
If your hope is from time to time is weakened by all the troubles and evils of the world, praying Psalm 46 can make it strong again!
Prayer: Almighty Father, You are my refuge and my strength against those things that trouble me. I know You will take my fears away.
Thought for the Day: Seek the Lord during times of trouble and fears and He will give you peace.
