As parents God gives us a lot of lessons that we need to teach our children. However, I have discovered that while we are teaching our children life lessons they can turn around and teach us a few lessons about ourselves.
Growing up I was always a shy child. Hiding my true self and feelings inside so not to be laughed at or called weird. But, when my son begain school this same shyness hindered me in communicating with my son's teachers and parents of his friends. Not sure of what to do I prayed:
Lord, I am sure that their is a reason why you made me an observer instead of a talker. However, now this attribute is hindering me from communicating with my sons teachers and parents of his friends. Please show me what to do to begin the process of getting over my shyness.
I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
My answer came when my son and I moved into our current home. My sons has always been a people person. I jokingly say that he could make friends with dirt. So as he watched other children riding their bikes, skateboarding, and playing basketball across the street he set out to make some new friends.
The first day he sat on the steps watching them play. As time went on he would slowly inched his way closer to where they were playing. Until one day he was standing at the edge of our driveway as the basketball rolled away and stopped at his feet. He picked it up and said: "Hi, my name is 'J'." These few words were the first step to him making new friends.
From this I learned that the transfromation of my shyness would not occur overnight. However, I must take the first step and keep moving forward each and every day.
