Seven times Elijah told him to go and look-1 Kings 18:43-NLT
In the movie The Karate Kid (1984 & 2010) the karate teacher instructed his pupil (Ralph Macchio/Jaden Smith) to perform a repetitive act (wax on, wax off/put it on, take it off), which seemed quite silly at the time. It not only struck the actor playing the role as the karate kid odd but also that of the audience, myself being included. As the movie progressed it become rather evident that this act of repetition was very necessary for growth. Strangely enough the act of repetition is an absolute essential in our walk with Christ.
What do I mean by repetition being an essential part of our lives? I'm delighted that you asked. Repetition is one of the key elements that helps us become holy just as Christ has instructed. In Philippians 4:9 the Bible says whatever you have learned, received, heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. Well doesn't the word practice simply mean to repeat? Indeed it does!
"That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved".-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
