At a November 27, 2007, peace summit at Annapolis, Maryland, former President Bush met with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to renew Middle East peace talks that had stalled seven years ago. As a result of this peace summit, the participants concluded:
We meet to lay the foundation for the establishment of a new nation: a democratic Palestinian state that will live side by side with Israel in peace and security. We express our determination to bring an end to bloodshed, suffering and decades of conflict between our peoples; to usher in a new era of peace, based on freedom, security, justice, dignity, respect and mutual recognition; to propagate a culture of peace and nonviolence; to confront terrorism and incitement, whether committed by Palestinians or Israelis. In furtherance of the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security, we agree to immediately launch good-faith bilateral negotiations in order to conclude a peace treaty, resolving all outstanding issues, including all core issues, without exception, as specified in previous agreements. However, what is the possibly that the descendants of Abraham and his wife Sarah and Abraham and Sarah’s maidservant Hagar would ever truly be able to live in peace. The chances are very unlikely. In fact, as everyone knows, there has been dissention between the ancestors of these two women for six thousand years. In fact, the Bible states that God said that He would bless the descendants of Abraham and Hagar. But, God made a direct covenant with Abraham concerning his future descendants from the bloodline of Isaac, the son that God promised Abraham and Sarah. In Genesis 17:7-8, God tells Abraham:
7. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8. And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
Also, in Genesis 22, God reaffirms His covenant with Abraham. In Genesis 22: 15-18, the angel of the Lord told Abraham that would be blessed even more because he was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, the son God promised Abraham:
15. And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16. And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17. That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18. And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Therefore, all parties involved with giving up land that belongs to Israel are making a serious mistake in judgment. As stated in the scriptures, God’s covenant with Abraham would last forever. Also, according to God’s covenant with Abraham, his seed would “possess the gate of his enemies.” That is definitely a straightforward statement concerning Israel’s future made six thousand years ago.
Of course, some of the land now controlled by Israel was taken from several Middle Eastern countries that attacked Israel during the infamous Six-Day War of 1967, which was fought between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Needless to say, despite the method in which Israel obtained certain lands, normally the spoils of war go to the victor, especially when the enemy attacked their sovereign nation. However, according to Newsmax, an internet news site, President Barack Obama wants Israel to shrink its borders to the pre-1967 borders, which existed prior to the Six-Day War, in order to create the State of Palestine on its western border. But, who in their right mind would want their enemy living next door to them. Also, it is unnerving that so many “Christian” presidents, Presidents Carter, Clinton, Bush, and Obama, would want to divide up Israel. Apparently, they never read the Old Testament in the Bible. If they had, as is indicative of the previously mentioned scriptures in Genesis 22:15-18, they would already know that they are in violation of God’s Holy Word in relation to the formation of the State of Palestine out of land given to Abraham by God Himself.
Also, American presidents should already know that the exchange of land for peace is basically a situation in which both sides lose. In fact, many examples exist in history where this concept has failed miserably to achieve its goal. Once such example took place in 1938, one year before the beginning of World War II. Adolf Hitler demanded that the Czech government return Sudetenland, the German section of Czechoslovakia, to Germany. Of course, at first, the Czech government refused. However, the British and French governments pressured the Czech government to give in to Hitler’s demand. Finally, on September 29, 1938, the Munich Treaty was signed by Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain and Premier Edouard Daladier of France. As a result, this exchange of land for peace would supposedly appease Hitler and stop an all out invasion of Czechoslovakia. But, of course, the Munich Treaty meant nothing to Hitler. Therefore, by March 1939, the German army had invaded and occupied the entire nation of Czechoslovakia.
Now, sixty-six years after World War II, the United States is attempting to use the same concept to pressure Israel to give up part of its territory. Israel’s land would be used to form a democratic Palestinian state in return for a so-called peace between the two countries. But, as stated earlier, any chance that a lasting peace would exist between Israel and Palestine would be null and void. It would be synonymous with the fighting going on between Afghanistan and Iraq with the United States. The possibility of permitting any of these countries to locate on the borders of America would be disastrous. Therefore, if they offered America the same type peace treaty that Israel is being offered, would American citizens and politicians agree to the treaty immediately? Of course, the answer would be “no.” The Israeli government and its citizens should take the same identical viewpoint. Also, the United States should back Israel’s stand to fight terrorism in their land, just as America is fighting terrorism in the United States and abroad.
There is one other reason that Israel should not give up any land for peace. It would eliminate a buffer zone between Israel and a lifelong enemy. If a person knew that their neighbor had murdered someone, he or she would always be fearful that his or her neighbor might, for whatever reason, murder them at some point in time. The terror factor could possibly cause physical and or emotional health problems. To prevent this from happening, the property owner would probably put up a fence, put a large dog inside the fence, and install an alarm system in his home. These superficial protection methods would work to some degree. However, the best approach would be to move or pray that your neighbor would move. This would put some distance between him or her and the neighbor who is a known murderer. Get the picture! Israel desperately needs a buffer zone between its borders and the people who have been a menace for centuries. As a result, Israel must keep all its land because, as stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a May 19, 2011 Newsmax report, “Such a border would be ‘indefensible.’” Therefore, President Obama must recant his request for Israel to return its borders to the pre-1967 Six-Day War boundaries. Also, the Christian Church needs to wake up from its spiritual coma and demand that President Obama change his attitude and policy toward Israel, since God will not bless a nation that turns against His Chosen Nation of Israel.
P.S. President Obama should not have asked Israel to revert back to its pre-1967 borders. But, in reality, even if he does recant, it is too late to deny his true feelings concerning Israel. The American people know what is hidden in the recesses of his heart. As stated in Luke 6: 45, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Therefore, the Bible is correct once again.
