I read about a popular TV star on the pages of a newspaper in Nigeria a few years ago. According to the man, he started in a very little way and continued taking drugs until he became an addict. He was so involved in drug taking until he sold his four cars and a house in the name of drugs. When he had nothing to sell, he “deposited” his boy-child with the drug seller - all because of drugs. His life was in shambles. Thanks to God who saved him from his peril.
Some years ago, a man in his fifties, said that he had two things he can defend and protect with anything. Do you want to know them? The name of his town and his age. He further said that he can do any thing to anyone who dares to belittle these two “all important” things. That is for him.
How do you feel if I call these two people “Addicts”?
Now let us consider an issue that concerns you and me – The kingdom of God.
To what extent do you take serious the instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ contained in Matthew 6:33 that says,
"But seek first his kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well"
Can you leave all for the kingdom of God? Your love and preparation for this place, has it got the point of addition where you can forsake all?
Can you forgo any youthful lust for the kingdom of God? When this stared Joseph in the face, he remembered the presence of God that went everywhere with him as a kingdom – minded man. He bluntly told his master’s wife, who has cast a longing eye on him thus,
“Lo, having me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my hand; he is not greater in this house than I am; nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” Gen 39:8-9 (RSV).
Do you fellowship with kingdom addicts who can defy the order of a mighty king? When a powerful king has prepared a mode of death for you and your men, can you say “No sir” to his instruction of bowing down to an idol?
There was a story of three kingdom addicts in the Bible whose names are Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego.
When King Nebuchadnezzar commanded them to bow down to his image of gold, they refused. Another option was provided by the King – a burning fiery furnace.
These men were not deterred at all. They boldly told the King that had power to prepare a burning fiery furnace seven folds to make it hotter,
“If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, o King.
But if not be it known to you, o King, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up”. Daniel 3:17-18 (RSV)
These are kingdom addicts for you!
How serious are you as far as kingdom matters are concerned? Are you addicted to the kingdom of God? Please grow to the level of addiction. Become an addict of the Kingdom today and forever.
