God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ and father of the true disciples of the Son, is the owner of heaven and earth. He has His kingdom where He reigns supreme; many things are hidden about the kingdom of God to the wise and understanding but revealed to babes because this is His gracious will. Not only this, all things, including, this kingdom has been delivered to Jesus Christ. (Luke 10:21-22, Revised Standard Version)
The kingdom of God must therefore be preached. The Son of God did this as we read in Luke chapter eight in verse one thus
“Soon afterward He went on through cities and villages, preaching the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him” Revised Standard Version (RSV).
Not only did Jesus preached the kingdom of God and its good news, the twelve with Him was also sent to do the same thing as contained in Luke chapter nine in verses one and two,
“And He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal”. (RSV)
The Lord Jesus did not stop at this, he knew that the work of preaching the goodness of the kingdom of God is a serious one and that the harvest is plentiful, He sent out another set of seventy disciples, with the same assignment that He gave the twelve- member group. Read this in Luke 10:1-11.
Because the harvest is plentiful and the scarcity of the laborer, the parting words of the Lord to His disciples are
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit”
Mathew 28:18-19 (RSV)
This preaching must be done without any distraction whatsoever. It is to be treated with urgency. No provision is made for “burials” and saying “farewell”. Read this in Luke 9:60-62.
Not only this, the kingdom of God must be prayed for. Teaching His disciples how to pray, Jesus included “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10 (RSV).
When the kingdom of God comes, this supreme will shall be done on earth. So, it must be taken seriously. It must be prayed for personally and for our nations.
This kingdom of the God is not a thing that is far away. It is very near. Nearer than can be imagined it is in the heart of man. It starts there and ends in eternity when man meets his Lord and Savior. The kingdom of the father is further taken to wherever its good news is preached. This is achieved by accepting Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. He alone is the way to the kingdom of God, the father. Jesus Christ refers to those that want to enter this kingdom by other ways as “thieves”. Hear Jesus in Luke 10:22,
“All things have been delivered to me by my father and no one knows who the son is except the father, or who the father is except the son and any one to whom the son chooses to reveal him.” (RSV).
Therefore, enter this kingdom through Jesus Christ only!
Do you care to know the secret of this kingdom? This is the exclusive right of the children of the kingdom of God. Kings and Prophets desires to see the secrets of the kingdom but could not but the children are not ignorant of them. Jesus said to His disciples,
“To you it has been given to know the secret of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables…” Luke 8:10 (RSV).
Are you a child of the kingdom of God? Do you want to know or learn how to handle your life as a child of God? I recommend my friend’s (ThresiaPaulose Varghese) article titled “God speaks through children”, it is an eye opener.
