The Fall & Rise Of Our Faith
By Elizabeth House
“To him who is able to keep you from FALLING and so present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy. To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.” Jude 1:24
I was given this wonderful dream at age twelve and it has encouraged and reminded me throughout my entire life that I belong to Him and that He will catch me when I fall.
I was in the highest heavens as far as I could see there were billows of clouds all around. The sky, clouds and the entire dream consisted of the color light brown and tan. To my right, a small group of people stood waiting on a beautiful stone balcony, the Lord was standing at the door which opened on to the balcony and all of heaven.
Jesus walked towards us and said, in a reassuring voice, “Jump! If you belong to me, then your angel will catch you and bring you back home, but if you are not mine then you will fall to the earth and eventually will die.”
After He said those words, I immediately turned and looked over the balcony to see what was below. I beheld thousands and thousands of angels flying below. It was truly awesome. The earth appeared like only a small blue marble in size due to its far distance.
Angels were gracefully yet swiftly flying all over with a purpose of catching those who had jumped before me in faith. I saw them reaching out their hands and catching the very elect, only to fly them back to their place of refuge and safety with God. The angels and the entire panoramic view were in third dimension.
Some people and angels had fallen so far they appeared so very small in size due to the distance they had fallen, almost what seemed to be to their demise. While others fell only half way down, still others were caught shortly after they had jumped. Those closer appeared life size.
The angels wore long robes with out stretched wings that appeared to be larger than their bodies. Their wings were in constant motion. Their mission seemed to strategically find, catch and swooped up the elect and take them home.
As I stood on the balcony over looking the marvelous precipice, my mind was inundated as I began to contemplate the situation. I was scared and felt fear as my body grew cold. The idea of dying became very real at that moment as I questioned if I was His child or not. Everything within me hoped and prayed I was. As I searched introspectively, nothing else seemed to matter. I had no where to go and no where to run, as I knew that apart from Christ, I had no future there was no life.
A peace that surpassed all understanding came over me. It gave me resolve to release the fear of losing my life yet complete hope to put all my faith in God. I surrendered and felt freedom. It no longer mattered if I lived or died, because I knew and had full trust that I was His child and His angel would catch me. This faith gave me the strength and complete confidence to rise up and jump.
With nothing more than my faith in the Lord, I jumped from the balcony. I began to fall from heaven and dropped rapidly towards the earth. I saw angels all around and people being quickly caught up in the sky. A cry from within me called out “Lord, save me!” I was hoping that my angel would soon come and rescue me. I was scared yet confident that It was only a matter of time. As I was falling, less than half way down, my angel gently reached out his hands placed them under my arms and caught me.
I then woke up and felt such relief and unspoken gratitude that words could not describe, it was the Lord who sent an angel to save and deliver me from death.
In the dream Jesus challenges us to surrender our lives and trust God. He in-turn is faithful to save and deliver us from death.
Jesus chose to come down from heaven, suffered and died on the cross in our place. He had the authority to command and call down a legion of angels to save him but He did not. Instead He shed His precious blood that washes all our sins away so we can be reconciled to God. In Philippians 2: 5-11 states:
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God,did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Today this dream is a reminder of how Jesus surrendered his life on the cross at Calvary. It wonderfully demonstrated God’s love and mercy by reassuring us that when we decide to obey and surrender our lives to Him He is faithful to rescue us for eternity.
As I sifted through the dream, I asked the Lord for wisdom and discernment. Here are the scriptures that encouraged my soul and confirmed His unconditional love for me.
1.) I was in the highest heavens standing on a lovely stone balcony with a small group of people …….
In the book of Isaiah 57: 13 it says that “God dwells in high and holy places with those who are humble and contrite in heart, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. I will not accuse forever, nor will I always be angry, for then the spirit of man grow faint before me.”
I so needed my heart revived as a young girl and today is no different. God only knows! He is so faithful when we cry out for help, He answers us, reveals Himself, heals our broken hearts, and lovingly restores our soul. Psalm 23
2.) The sky, clouds and the entire dream consisted of the color light brown and tan…...
The color brown or tan represents death; humility.
In 1 peter 1:24 it talks about the grass withering (turns brown in death, i.e. repentance) and the flowers thereof fall away.
Even though I was very young, I remember feeling hopeless in my situation. Can anyone relate? I could not see nor understand why, but I did feel desperate for change and wanted a new life filled with love, joy and righteousness.
Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit (poor = desperate) for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
3.) The Lord stood at the door that opened on to the balcony and all of heaven…….
Scripturally the word balcony symbolically represents a spiritual viewpoint; to oversee according to Rev 4:1
After this I looked, and , behold, a door was opened in heaven; and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up higher, and I will show you things which must be thereafter.”
4.) Jesus entered and He walked towards us. He said, in a reassuring voice, “Jump! If you belong to me, then your angel will catch you and bring you back home, but if you are not mine you will fall to the earth and ultimately die….…….
When the Lord asked me to jump He in fact was asking for my life. He was asking for my whole heart, soul and mind. Matt 22:37 Our natural response and immediate reaction is to save ourselves and stay in control. It is difficult to go against our natural instincts.
The Lord said in the dream that if you are not mine you will fall towards the earth and ultimately die. The opposite of surrendering our lives to Christ is to rebel and to stubbornly refuse to obey what He has said in His word. Here is what the scriptures say about falling or being cast out from heaven towards the earth. In Isaiah 14:12-15
How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.[ I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.
5.) There were angels gracefully flying everywhere as they would reach out their hands and catch their chosen person….
After that we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:17
I believe the space between heaven’s balcony and the earth is time. Those in the far distance were tiny in size. They are the saint’s who had jumped and surrender their lives in the beginning. The Lord shows His faithfulness from generation to generation through out time.
I also believe the small group on the balcony is the last to jump before His returns. He is and has always been the true beginning, middle and end of all things.
Rev 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
6.) The angels were adorned in long flowing robes…...
If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:9-11
He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shall thou trust; His truth shall be thy shield and buckler
7.) As I stood on the balcony over looking the marvelous precipice…………..
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. The poor (desperate) man called, and the Lord heard him. He saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Psalm34:7
8.) As I searched introspectively, nothing else seemed to matter. I had no where to go and no where to run, as I knew that apart from Christ, I had no future.....
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4: 17
9.) A strength came over me that surpassed all of my understanding……………..
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak even youth grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; Isaiah 40: 29-31
He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end.” Ecc. 3:11
I can’t tell you how many times I felt like giving up during the difficult times of my life where I felt it was just to hard, and challenging to push through. I wanted to cry and curl up in a ball but instead I learned to pray and cry out to God for help. Meditating on scriptures has been a very big source of strength as well as praising, worshiping God through song during quiet times.
It is not easy going through the storm of uncertainty in our lives or going through deep waters. It is only by God’s grace and mercy that I was able to preserver through my situation when I felt hopeless and fearful. It was at those times during the dysfunction of my childhood, failed marriages, and the heart ache of having a child born with a disability that I learned to depend on God and His word.
10.) This faith gave me the strength and complete confidence to rise up and jump.…...
Jumping represented death of self. In John 12:24 “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it but, whoever loses his life for me will save it.’ Luke 9:24
11.) I saw angels all around and people being quickly caught by angels in the sky…...
“And then he will send out the angels and gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” Mark 13: 27
God is also asking us not to doubt, even when we cannot see or know the end results. God is speaking and clearly demonstrating His complete devotion to us by forever teaching us lessons so we can utterly learn the true meaning of letting go and surrendering all to Him. The Lord uses dreams because He wants us to feel, see and hear that He is there for us and we are not alone.
Today, over 30 years later, I am so humbled and grateful for this wonderful dream. I have come to realize that we will never understand the true meaning of complete unity and oneness with God or His people until we choose to continuously let go and release our lives to Him. It is a moment in time when there is no turning back, but only surrendering all and jumping into the extended arms of God Himself, that we may find eternal salvation.
