Wrestling with the Lord

What a struggle I must have been,
To hurt, neglect and abuse my only friend.

He has done nothing wrong for me to fight,
All he wanted is for me to see through his sight.

Had I only listened to his voice,
Wisdom and knowledge would have been my choice.

I thought I was wise, I thought I was tough,
I stepped in the ring and lifes been so rough.

Why did I fight the only Prince of peace?
He's the one who sets my heart at ease.

Folly and pride has played its role,
Why did I wrestle with the savior of my soul?

I wanted my God, I wanted my pleasures,
An evening of sin for an eternity of treasures.

100s of blows he must have taken,
I still hear his voice, you are not forsaken.

I let down my guard and gave up the fight,
He opened my eyes, now I can see through his sight.

Had I known then what I know now,
Id stepped in the ring and thrown in the towel.

Ive felt his strength of that of an iron cord,
Nothing good comes from wrestling with the Lord.

He is not our enemy, in which we attack,
He is our shield in the front and guard in the back.

Take my words; its not worth the fight.
For the victory has been won, through his Spirit and might.

So when your heart feels torn in two,
Remember, Jesus is your friend who will see you through.
