It has always been unpredictable and uncertain to be sure, but it seems more unstable than ever nowadays. Filled with catastrophic happenings, the newspapers scream scary headlines nearly every day. Maybe it’s time we developed a way of coming to terms with what the future may hold for us personally and the world generally. A good beginning would be a constant prayer on our lips and in our hearts for God’s daily guidance. After that we need to develop a new set of defense mechanisms to deal with the fact that we are extremely vulnerable because we are. To the best of our individual ability we need to begin, if we’re not already, to live our lives day by day as if it were indeed our last on earth: to treat each other as we want to be remembered; to give till it hurts; to love to the uttermost; to remain calm and anchored, and to know assuredly that our frenzy and preparations will not materially affect the outcome. We rest in God’s hands. There may not be a good answer, but to my human way of thinking, this is the best one in our arsenal at the moment.
