Mother's Day and Everyday Be Encouraged
God loves Moms! I know you knew that, but I wanted to show you something in the Word that would reinforce that in your understanding. When you teach and train your children “up in the way they should go…” He will back you up! Sometimes in miraculous ways! Here is just one example of how He backed up Jesus’ Mom:
John 2: 6-11
"On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him."
When you read that did you see the course it took? Mary, Jesus’ Mom, wanted him to do something about the situation! At first…now pay close attention…Jesus didn’t respond very favorably to her statement. She didn’t even flinch at his response but went ahead and told the servants to do whatever he told them to do.
It doesn’t say it in the text, but you can figure out what happened. God got behind his Mom! He must have said…and I will put it in words we can relate to…”Son, listen to your Mother. Do what she asked of you!”
How do we know that?…Because Jesus himself tells us that he did only what His Father told him to do. God was speaking to him THROUGH HIS MOTHER, and then told him to do what she said! And:
John 2:11 says:
"This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him."
God backed Jesus’ Mom; Jesus was obedient; a miracle happened. I don’t think it was an accident that God chose to do it this way. Do you realize He could have just spoken directly to Jesus and told him to turn the water into wine. But He didn’t! He chose to use Mary to instruct him first and then validated what she said! How very awesome is that? Be encouraged Mom…God is on your side!
And another thing…don’t think that was only true for Mary. Mary was chosen to bring forth and raise Jesus…you were chosen to bring forth and raise your children. God trusts you to do that or He wouldn’t have chosen you to do it! And yes, sometimes, we mess up! So did she! She was not the perfect Mom either. What makes me think that? Hey…she lost Jesus for three days!
"His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And £Joseph and His mother did not know it; but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them."
And yes, because the Word says that “all thing work together for good…” it was a wonderful thing that happened as he was among those teachers in the temple, but he still managed to get out of their sight to do it! Can you imagine what that must have been like for them? When they finally realized he wasn’t with them. Plus the fact that it was a long trip back to find him. No cell phones; no police to call; nothing. Can you imagine how bad they felt about not even knowing he was gone! And I think they were probably a little mad at him for wandering off without telling them. Yes, God worked it all for the good, but these were real people just like us.
So the next time you feel like you messed up or fell short…remember Mary and Joseph and know that God has got you covered!
And on a lighter note of encouragement…you can’t mess them up so bad that God can’t fix them! And if they would happen to need therapy…His is free!
