I remember the smell of chicken-n-dumplings,
My Momma's favorite dish for shor',
but it seems like it was such a life time ago,
Cuz Momma don't live here anymore.
On days like today we'd sing some ole hymns,
and eat till we couldn't eat us no more,
We'd laugh and play as all kids will do,
but now Momma don't live here anymore.
As kid we'd buy her flowers and cheap perfume,
Couldn't afford much cuz we were so poor,
and she'd make over it all like we gave her diamonds,
but Momma don't live here anymore.
The simpliest things made my Momma happy,
even her best Sunday dress that she wore,
she never put on "airs" or phony facades,
now, Momma don't live here no more.
She living in Heaven, down on Golden Street,
with real diamonds upon her front door,
She talks regular with Jesus, and sings in the choir,
Cuz Momma don't live here anymore.
Happy Mother's Day Momma, I miss you so much!!!!
