Well zeal is that energy you have when you seek God. It means being eager, with a lot of interest when seeking something.
I’m not talking about those mood swings we all get, when we get filled with joy and because of that joy we seem to love God more one day then the rest… especially after a major blessing. That sort of seeking is not zealous, it is just an emotion. True zeal for God is one that lasts, one that is consistent.
Being zealous for God to the point where you are prepared to sell all your possessions to give to God, or to the point where you are prepared to pack up and leave tomorrow morning to a mission that God is sending you on. That is the zeal I am talking about, zeal where even other Christians call you crazy!
How far would you really go? Are you prepared to be the guy that Christians make fun of and call a fanatic? Are you willing to lay everything down with passion for God? Are you really?
Galatians 4:18 (NASB) tells us that “it is good ALWAYS to be eagerly (or zealous) sought in a commendable manner (or thing)…”
For those that don’t know, commendable means to represent as worthy or desirable, to commit to the care of another or to express the approval of praise.
We can read from this verse that Apostle Paul was writing to the Galatians that they (and we) should be eagerly seeking and pursuing good deeds, we should try our best, with passion to do good acts.
Often when we get lead by God to be zealous we tend to run the other way. Perhaps we are scared of what other people will think of us, or we don’t want to get out of comfort zones. Being zealous means getting up and doing something for God, through His guidance. If we seek God’s will with this passion and energy, if we are eager to follow God, then God WILL teach us, lead us and He will be WITH us!
We always say that we love God, that He is our first priority, but how easily do we doubt when going through a trial?
You know, you can tell your friend that you love them and you can say that you mean it. You can even believe yourself that you mean it. But if your friend is in need and you don’t help out, do you still love them?
Twist the story now, and imagine that friend is God. God is never in need, but do your actions go parallel with your words “I love you”? Or don’t they fit together?
God wants us to boil with love for Him, remember He rebuked the lukewarm church in the book of Revelations!
How far are you prepared to go for God?
You may say that you don’t know God’s will on your life. But I will tell you God’s will on your life right now, to do His will, simple?
Eagerly search the Bible to find how God wants you to live your life, and God will give you a revelation.
That is God’s will for you, now do it with zeal, passion, love and do it eagerly!
