Isaiah 54 .... "In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer"
Reaching out to the LORD early this morning I fell upon the scripture Isiaah 54 and it was this verse that touched my heart deeply.
I was struck with the word little in terms of the wrath given to us by the Living God. It describes the small amount shown to us and over a short period of time compared with the everlasting which is never ending kindnesses and mercy given to us. How wondrous is this!
My heart expanded at the beauty of this word for even David speaks that he would rather fall into the hands of men than the wrath of the Living God. Paul emphasises that he would rather they had not known the truth at all than to turn their backs on the true gospel of Jesus Christ and yes the true Living God such should be the understanding of the LORD.
I was privy to a conversation by a neighbour asking for my help. He had the phone on loud speaker to a relative who claimed to be a born-again christian. The language was foul, the double-dealing going on was incredulous. The LORD opened my eyes to many who profess to follow the Way the life of Jesus but whose life He showed me are far worse than those who do not know God or even believe in him. Even my neighbour was aghast and apologised what must our LORD think. I said very little indeed. For Jesus speaks of a time when many will fall into the hands of satan because that is what they choose to do. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
God chastens those whom he loves and yes as I have grown in my faith indeed five years ago listening to a wonderful shepherd of the LORD he preached on John 15. Much pruning goes on in our lives. Only the LORD knows what has to be pruned it is his work alone. He is the Gardener and his timing for our lives is always perfect. I personally came from a background of severe sexual abuse and it was entwined with the occult and the wonderful mercies of God even amaze me now!
God is compassionate, kind and long-suffering towards us. Often we can act out of ignorance but when He reveals the truth then if His Spirit is in you there should be no turning back. Yet still if we sin we have an advocate in Jesus Christ and if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will remove our sins from us never to be seen again. This is not so we can do it again as Paul speaks in Romans but as a lesson to serve us with humility before the Living God. For indeed his wrath is little but there will come a time when the full force of His wrath will come upon the whole world in enormity. We know not the time only the Father, we should not tend to these things but keep your oil burning, let not your eyes grow dim as Eli for indeed Christ will take away the candle.
So dearly beloved let us not grow weary in doing good to your fellow brethren. Love your neighbour as yourself snatching those from the fire and speaking tenderly as our LORD does on every occasion to bring us always to repentence to God.
Truly God's everlasting kindnesses far exceed any kindnesses man can give and His mercy endures forever.
The LORD is your Redeemer. Turn not your heart away from the Living God who is plentious in mercy and goodness. Truly the vilest offender who believes will a pardon receive.
Amen
