Just Before Dawn
Thomas E. Kittrell

Just before dawn
Mary Magdalene was awake from her sleep
Busily preparing spices for her Lord in the grave
Remembrance of recent events making her weep
Just before dawn
Her master was lying in a grave out there
He had died a cruel death, hung on a cross
Sobbing quietly, she stepped into the morning air
Just before dawn
Eleven disciples restlessly tossed and turned
The one they had followed had been killed
Sorrow and anguish in their hearts still burned
Just before dawn
The high priest lay sleeping in his bed
Confident things would continue as before
This man Jesus was in his grave, now dead
Just before dawn
Earth’s citizens not stirring, all was quiet
Roman soldiers were at their post, alert
They had been there throughout the night
Just before dawn
An angel came down from the skies
Smiling, he rolled away the stone
Proving from the grave Jesus did arise
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared,
and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. (Luke 24:1-2)

I really enjoyed reading this. I loved the concept of seeing what each person was doing, just before dawn on that day. Beautifully conveyed your thoughts and ideas.
'JUST BEFORE DAWN'! Thank God for the NEW DAWN God promises us in Christ. Indeed weeping may tarry all night but it must terminate before dawn, it shall not spill over but must give way for the JOY of a new day which God is bringing.
This poem reminds me again that sorrow, pain and challenges of life have expiry dates! Thank you for sharing. God bless you.

Great to be able to see another of your poems posted. I echo Jody and continue to thank God for your ministry. Please give Mary a big 'Mother's Day' hug for me and tell her I love her. Jan
