Sunday 4/17/11 Pastor Ed sermon The Gospel - Part 1 Rom 1:16, Gal 3:8, II Cor 11:7, John 14:24, II Cor 2:12, Rom 16:25,Gal 1:1-7
Romans 1:16 Be not ashamed of the Gospel. It is the Power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew and Greek also.
Many people donít really know what the gospel is. The gospel is contained in the Word of God but its not the word. The gospel isnít Jesus being born of a virgin and its not Jesus healing people. The gospel is not you confessing you sins or praying a lot. We need to know what the Gospel actually is so we can preach it like Jesus told us to do.
There is only One True Gospel. God owns the gospel and is the originator of the gospel. Gal 3:8 God first preached the gospel to Abraham saying ďthat in Abraham all nations shall be blessedĒ.
The Gospel brings blessings NOT curses.
The Gospel brings freedom/liberty NOT bondage.
The Gospel brings joy and peace.
The Gospel is easy to receive when its preached.
The Gospel is entered into thru Faith NOT works.
In Gal 3:8 God justified the heathen-Us. We, the heathen, cannot do anything or work anything to get justified! We cannot live good enough to be justified! PERIOD! God did the justification. God is not holding our sins and trespasses against us. He decided to justify us so it would be like we had never sinned. We canít live right or do right to get justified. We canít do anything on our own.
If we can get this then we can stop trying to get justified by doing works Donít listen to the devil saying we havenít been praying or fasting enough to make God happy with us. We are justified by FAITH and BELIEVING in God and accepting the Gift of Jesus.
II Cor 11:17-God gave the gospel to Jesus who gave it to Paul freely to
John 14:24 - preach. Jesus said the words that he preached came from God.
II Cor 2:12 - Christís gospel was preached The gospel later became Paulís
Rom 16:25 - gospel. Paul said it is Ďmy gospelĒ which came to him by revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began.
Paul said his previous knowledge and education was ďdungĒ since he got the revelation of God thru the Holy Ghost. Paul called it his gospel because he knew it was revealed to him by God! God gave the gospel to Paul and it was his.
Gal 1:1-4 Paul wrote this letter to the Galatians stating that he was an
Apostle of Jesus and God and not of man. Paul wrote this letter because the church was slipping back into being under the law and not Grace.
Vs. 2 Grace and Peace always go together. This grace and peace is between God and us, NOT man and his neighbors.
Vs. 4 Deliver us from this present evil world. Godís will is us to be delivered from evil NOW! Not when we get to Heaven. Sickness is evil, poverty is evil and everything thatís evil, God wants to deliver us from it NOW!!
Vs. 6 -7 Paul questioned go the church could so soon go astray after another gospel, another belief, another perverted gospel. Counterfeit gospel!! We must know the Real True Gospel first so we can recognize the counterfeit one.
We must remember: The goodness of God changes our whole attitude. Our inner man doesnít want to sin anymore. The Grace of God gives us Freedom and the Just shall live by Faith!!
