Dimensions of Godís Power
Itís important that we understand the different levelís or dimensions of Godís power. Paul prayed that we may come to know it, and left us a letter to show us how to do it. I thank God for Paul because he makes living a Christian life so practical.
Paul said, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe (Eph.1:19). This is one level of Godís power that saved us and we were Born-again supernaturally.
Paul said, according to (in the same measure as or to the exact degree), the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead (Eph.1:19-20). Itís obvious that being Born-again and being raised from the dead like Jesus was is two entirely different levels of Godís power being explained by Paul.
Paulís Use of Phrases
Paul has a unique way of using terms, words and phrases to point out different levels of Godís power. Paul uses terms as Quickened, Made live and Raised us up together to indicate different levels of Godís power. As we read through the letters he wrote to the churches at Rome and Ephesus we will see how clever he made sense out of the dimensions of Godís power.
Level One: Being made Spiritually Alive
Born-again- Quickened as Paul teaches and experienced Himself (I did as well) is one level of Godís power. Paul said, and you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins (Eph.2:1)
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved); And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph.2:5-6)
Quicken (Grk. Suzoopoieo #4806)-is to quicken together with, make alive with (Eph.2:5)
Paul metaphorically points out that when we believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we were given spiritual life with Christ. In other words, we were Born-again or spiritually resurrected from our sins and trespasses. Our human spirits were given new life. We are new creations in Christ Jesus.
We were not resurrected physically yet Paul is referring to our human spirits that was raised up together with Christ and seated in heavenly places. This is a biblical known fact now, not something in the future that will happen. We are spiritually connected with God.
Excuse me for being repetitious by using different sentence structures but some people even I sometimes need to hear it presented in different ways to get the spiritual point across.
Level Two: Godís Revitalizing Power
Paulís teaching on Godís power manifesting itself by making alive a dead body part. Paul wrote to the Christians at Rome about Abraham and said, (As it written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before Him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and call those things which be not as though they were (Rom.4:17)
Who against hope believed in hopeÖ(Rom.4:18)
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarahís womb: (Rom.4:19)
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; (Rom.4:20)
And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform (Rom.4:21)
Paul pointed out that Abraham pleased God through faith. Abraham believed God that he will have a child, as God had revealed to him. It took 25 years for the promise of God to come true in his life, but in Godís timing, God quicken (Revitalized) Abrahamís and Sarahís reproductive organs and they had Issac (Gen.12:1-4/ 17:1-14)
Paul used the word Quickeneth (Grk. Zoopoieo #2227)-to revitalize; make alive, give life, quicken.
Notice that God gave them physical life to their reproductive organs at an old age. God revitalized them Abraham being 100 and Sarah being 90 years old.
I want to encourage every barren person or the people who are desperately trying to conceive a child. Medical science has advanced but when science canít help you or if youíre too poor to afford any treatment for reproduction. Go to God in prayer and if you have too fast and hold to the promise of God to experience this revitalizing power. Cialis or Viagra cannot compete with God. Medical science has its limitations. Godís word and promise along with His perfect timing will bless you with a child.
This revitalizing power is so awesome that after Sarah died. Abraham went on to remarry and have more children with his second wife. (Gen.25:1-6)
Level Three: Power to Live a Successful Christian Life
Paul made a point of how we can live a successful Christian life. He points out the struggle of a believer in Romans 7:14-25. Then Paul shares how weíve been delivered from the power of sin and death. And he encourages us to walk in the spirit not in the flesh. But he also makes it clear that it is possible to walk in the spirit when we are quicken by the Holy Spirit to do so. Paul said, but if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you (Rom.8:11)
For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live (Rom.8:13)
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Rom.8:14)
Paul is saying that we can Through the Spirit of God put to death the misdeeds (perverted passions) of the body. The Holy Spirit will quicken, revitalize our bodies from the sinful temptations and physical perverted stimulations, and help us put those desires to death. So we can think, imagine, understand, speak and actually live a spiritual life being led by the Spirit of God.
How do we tap into this?
1. Believing the word of God
2. By prayer; In the book of Psalms we have prayers about God quickening us in different areas of our lives.
3. Emotionally stressed or depressed-My soul cleaves onto the dust: quicken me according to your word (Psalm 119:25,28)
4. When your eyes are wandering checking out the opposite sex and having lustful imaginations-Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken me in Your way (Psalm 119:37)
5. When your afflicted-this is my comfort in my affliction; for Your word has quickened me(Psalm 119:50,107)
6. When you need to keep Godís testimony alive and active in your life-Quicken me after Your loving kindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth(Psalm 119:88)
7. By practicing these short prayers you wonít forget Godís precepts (Psalm119:93)
8. See Psalm 119:149,154,156,159) for more short prayers of asking God to quicken you.
Personally I pray them and a power grips my heart immediately and I go about living the Christian life successfully by the power of the Holy Spirit. When I donít do it I have a lousy day stressed out and ho-hum type of experience. But you can quickly change that by a short Prayer.
I pray Father in Jesusí mighty name, quicken, revive and make alive my entire being to function this day as a true Christian full of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, self-control to handle this day in righteousness and holiness being an example to this dying world who needs to see the light of your glory. Quicken me according to thy word, thy righteousness, thy truth, thy Spirit, thy love, thy compassion and so onÖ
Iím going to continue this topic on the levels of Godís power in my next article. May God bless and move you to apply this teaching in Jesusí name Amen.
