What an amazing couple of months this has been. I have been so busy! Loving it! I have finally come to the place where I am living out my dream of being a full-time writer! It is the first thing on my mind in the morning. . .and I go to sleep planning what I will do the next day! Sleep is just something I have to do to get renewed to begin again tomorrow.
Your first question is probably. . ."So, are you making any money at it?" I had some things published that paid a little, but, right now, I am so caught up with just the joy of writing, getting paid doesn't seem that important. It won't always be that way, but for now, it's okay. I have five Blogs out there and Notes on Facebook (I consider that "blog lite!”)
I have been writing for a long time. . .really since I was a child, but until recently I couldn't seem to commit to making it the main focus of my life. Then one day I decided I was going to "just do it!" I had studied it long enough! You can only learn so much by studying the subject of writing. Trust me, you will learn so much more by doing it.
The more you write, the better you get at it. And, of course, when you are writing a blog, the minute you hit the "publish" button, you see all the typos; all the ways you could have said it better, and all the punctuation that doesn't line up with "the rules." Thank God for the "edit" button!
And another thing about blogging. . .don't get too concerned if you don't get the feedback you were hoping for as far as comments go. A lot of people read the "stuff" out there and never comment! If your site keeps stats, then check them occasionally (Okay...I do it everyday!) and see how many people have visited your blog. Remember, it will start slowly and some days no one will come. That's okay! Are you loving what you are doing? Then, if nothing else, just for now, use it as a training ground to hone your skills. Have fun with it! Relax! Like the Kevin Costner movie said, "just build it and they will come"...eventually! Be patient!
I just started blogging a couple of months ago and, as of this morning, I have 760 readers. Can you believe it? I am thrilled, and that is my motivation to hit the computer everyday and. . .just do it!
I read a statement somewhere years ago that said, "Writing is easy. All you have to do is glue your butt to a chair, get a blank sheet of paper, open a vein and bleed all over it!" Trust me, it is not that painful! Or that hard! I will admit, I have had to learn the "butt gluing" part. Why is it the office looks so cluttered and dusty the minute I sit down to write? Seemed fine yesterday!
Anyway, be encouraged! You can do it! Just commit yourself to let it flow. You know it is in there! Uncork it! You will even surprise yourself! Go for it!
