The hammer dealt a crushing blow,
The nails embedded deep…
His soul took on the weight and then,
His heart began to weep.
He felt the sorrow in your heart,
This pain had grieved him so…
He knew the time would one day come,
For you to let all go…
The hammer dealt a crushing blow,
The scars are there to see…
The place he made within his love,
To set your spirit free.
He knew the weight would grow and grow;
There had to be a way!
He knew this load would bury you;
He knew he had to pay!
The hammer dealt a crushing blow,
It nailed him to a cross…
He chose this way, on that dark day,
To help you bear each loss.
The stripes he bore upon his back,
And the thorns that pierced his head…
Does not compare with what he felt,
When the ground was stained in red.
The hammer dealt a crushing blow,
And a promise was now sealed:
By this world, we are broken,
But by his wounds we are healed!
