Ministering Through Songs 1
Grasping the Meaning of the Song 2

“You came from heaven to earth, to show the way"

I often think of the time Jesus spent with the disciples. He taught them and then sent them out to teach others. However, He did not leave them to do it on their own, He sent The Comforter. The Holy Spirit continued to teach them as they taught others. Today, we continue to learn about the Lord, Jesus Christ because they were taught not just how to love God but how to love one another and help others grow to love God too.

As I read the bible today, I’m grateful for the many lessons I continue to learn from the lives of the disciples, recorded in the bible. I am grateful for the teaching of the Holy Spirit. I continue to enjoy the teachings that comes from the stories and parables, Jesus shared while He was here on earth.

“From the earth to the cross, [it's] my debt You paid"

He did it for me. He paid the price for my sins and set me free. It was me that He was thinking of on the cross and today I am debt free all because He chose to save me. I am no longer chained to sin. I am free to worship Him.

My Song of Praise: Free Indeed, written 8th September 2010

[Verse 1]

You came down,
You left Your throne—
Your royal status from above;
To free me with Your love.

Without Your love—
Your unconditional love,
I’d be lost and alone;
Waiting to be found.

But because you thought of me,
I now have victory.
Your love has set me free.
Yes, I am free indeed.

[Verse 2]

You thought of me,
While hanging from that tree.
Yes, you thought of me…
When from hell You took the keys.

Now I’m walking in authority,
‘cause I’ve got the victory.
From sin I’ve been set free,
You’ve given me back my liberty.

[Repeat Chorus]

[Verse 3]

And when I speak, I speak…
As an oracle for Thee.
You paid the price for me,
Now my life belongs to Thee.

I’ve got the victory (x3)
Now I live to worship Thee
I live to worship Thee (x2)

You are my Redeemer.
You are my Healer.
You are my Provider.
You are my Comforter.
You are my Saviour

My life is empty without You.
I can do nothing without You.
All the praise belongs to You.
I live to worship You.

[Also written as a poem]

“From the cross to the grave…”

It is a bitter-sweet moment for me when I get to this point. I’m happy that the scene of the cross is over. He is no longer having to go through the torture…the humiliation… He no longer have to face the false accusations…no one spiting in his face and mocking him anymore. He suffered and died, for me. He paid the price required for my sins. I did the wrong. But I was born and shapen in iniquity, so I was never going to be right with God. The only way I could reconnect with God was through, Jesus Christ, His Son. Jesus was without SIN and so He was the only one worthy to pay the price for me. He fulfilled His purpose [of coming to earth] and I had the opportunity, once more, to have a relationship with my heavenly Father. It is finished.

“…from the grave to the sky…”

The grave represents death/finality. I often pause at this point for two reasons. The first reason I pause is that I find my mind thinking of the darkness of the grave and that there is a time to mourn and a time to laugh. When we lose loved ones we take time-out to mourn the death and allow the process of grieving to run its course. The second reason I pause is that Jesus was in the grave for three days. I find my mind travelling with Jesus to hell, as I watch Him reclaim the key that was stolen from us. This key was taken from us when the spirit of deception entered the garden of Eden. At this point, in the song, I can see the demons trembling as they clear the path for my Lord and Saviour to accomplish His task. Then I envisage the third day as He rose from the world of the dead. At this point, the laughter returns. Joy overwhelms my soul and my heart is filled with gratitude. It excites me as I watch Him return to heaven to take up His rightful place, in the Kingdom. Then again, as He sends The Holy Spirit and as He intercedes on my behalf—knowing exactly what lies ahead for me. Today I rejoice seeing how His victory over death gives life to every dead situation in my life. Hallelujah!

“…Lord, I lift Your name on high"

I could not have done it for myself. It is an impossible task for a human. On my own, I am a failure. So I am grateful that Jesus thought of me and paid the price for me. But not just that He paid the price, He brought me back into God’s Kingdom and I now have access to all the riches of the Kingdom. All that I allowed the enemy to take from me when I did not understand the fullness of God’s saving grace, I am now able to reclaim. As a child of the King, I now have the authority to reclaim my stuff. I can now walk in authority because I have reclaimed my royal status. When I open my mouth to speak, The Holy Spirit fills it with what I must say, speaking as an oracle for My Master. With this knowledge, I now lift His name High, above all other names. How do I do this? I give Him praise. I cannot do anything without Him. He is the one who works through me. Therefore, all honour and glory, all the praises belong to Him because He alone is worthy.

Could I have gone and reclaimed my stuff from the enemy, had Jesus not done the groundwork? No! I could not. I would still be stuck in a rut today. Jesus made it possible for me to have the power to rebuke all things negative from my life and loose the spirit of truth that sets me free from the deception that held me bound. Jesus made it possible for me to live peaceably with all men because while He was hanging from the cross, with only a few breath left in Him, He said, “Father, Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” That was the greatest lesson for me as I struggled with being a neglected child. Today when I’m wronged by anyone, I am able to say, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. I don’t need to carry it like a burden, anymore, knowing Christ bore it all for me. Therefore, I am free to praise Him for all He has done and is doing for me, through me and in me.

He said if I stay in His love, His joy will remain in me and my joy will be full[1]. In order for me to stay in His love, I have to follow His command; doing what He tells me to do. He said that the world will not love me for it, but as long as I continue in His love, He calls me friend. What a deal! I love my Lord for everything He has done for me. The least I can do, in gratitude, is to do what He tells me to do. And I don’t have to wait forever to see His favour, His joy is ignited within me and it is not based on my circumstance in life. It is based on my relationship with Him; He calls me friend[2]. Wow!

So whenever I sing this song, I’m reminded not to hide my gifts because the gifts that God has given to me are there to help me worship Him. It is with my gifts that I will praise Him and as I praise Him, He will use my praise to draw others closer to Him. That’s the purpose of my gift. It is not for self-praise it is to honour Him and bring glory to His name.

To God be the glory! Hallelujah!
