I shared the following on my website as part of a series of articles titled "Ministering Through Songs". I share it here for your perusal.

Ministering Through Songs
Grasping the meaning of the Song (1)
By Janice S Ramkissoon
There was a time when I simply repeated words of songs, having no understanding of their meaning and relevance to my Christian walk. Those were the days of my youth. However, singing those songs as a youth they were being stored in my memory, so that I can now retrieve them to help me, as I mature in Christ. When I sing these songs, they minister to me. I see them as little treasures.
Through this series of articles, Ministering Through Songs, I would like to share with you some of the songs that have ministered to me, and the meaning I grasped from them.
You may be at the stage of your Christian walk, where songs are just a bunch of words you string together or they may be songs you like, either for the rhyming words or because it has a beat you can dance to. If you have been singing any of the songs highlighted in this series, just by repeating the words and not grasping the concept of the cross and embracing the power of God’s love, then my prayer is that you will take another look with a fresh pair of eyes. Once you’ve done that, I would like to encourage you to sing them over again and allow the message within, to minister to you.
Sometimes we have little treasures in our midst and we don’t realise their value. God has been reaching me via songs and I would like to share with you some of what I have been experiencing. I pray that the words of these songs will minister to your hearts as they have been doing to mine.
I hope you will be blessed.
Your Sister in Christ,
Janice S Ramkissooon
