Have you ever asked yourself what power your words hold?
Proverbs 18:21 (NASB) says; “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
By reading this verse we can see that the tongue DOES have power. And I highly doubt it is talking about a physical power, I believe it is talking about spiritual or emotional power.
When was the last time someone insulted you? Did it hurt you? A person with heavily advanced depression may have gone off and committed suicide after hearing those words. Words are powerful; they are what can give life or lead to death. It is what has given today’s society so many mentally ill or people struggling through life because of verbal abuse. Some become criminals, murderers, prostitutes or gang leaders because of the words they heard when they where younger. So be careful what comes out of your mouth, it might be the difference between life and death in someone’s life… or more then one person!
Encouraging, positive and lifting words could bring life. I look back on my life and realize that a lot of the things I do now for God have grown a lot because people have encouraged me and complimented me for the things I was doing, this ministry is a good example. You may not know the people who are discouraged or depressed, but they will surely appreciate the compliments you give them! A simple “hey, how are you going” goes a long way, even if you don’t know that the person is struggling. So let’s go out and use our tongue to give life to people!
Be careful what comes out of your mouth, did you know that every word you say is heard by God and will be judged accordingly? Matthew 12:36 (NASB) tells us; “But I (Jesus) tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgement.” So you will be help responsible for all the words you said today, are you confident?
By saying things like “that guy isn’t a real Christian” (without feeling sorry for him and praying for him. (Note: I am referring to those who say this with a proud heart, that they are better)). You are actually encouraging demons and telling Satan that he is doing a good job at deceiving this person you gossip about.
By saying “God bless you”, you are doing the opposite, you encourage the angels. And you are praying that God will bless this person you talk about. Doesn’t this sound better then the cursing you might have been doing until now?
If you read the Bible you will see some great examples, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob blessed their sons, was this all done in vein? No!
You know, before studying this topic I used to tease and disrespect our church a lot. But after studying this subject in depth I realized I could be the one causing most the problems! By repeating the words I was saying about my church I was encouraging the evil spirits. This topic has changed my view on life, it has changed my life, I now pray for my church and bless it as much as I can, and I try and help out by fighting with it.
I honestly hope this message has spoken to you, May God bless you abundantly, you and the generations after you.
