Shakespeare wrote in The Merchant of Venice, "All that glisters is not gold." Fool's gold is another name for pyrite, also known as iron pyrite or iron sulfide. Its shiny yellow luster fooled many into believing they had struck gold.
On an old television series, Little House on the Prairie, one of the stories involved pyrite. Laura Ingalls, and a friend, waded in a creek not far from home and noticed something sparkling on the creek bottom. It intrigued them so much they started digging it up because they thought it was gold. They didn’t tell their parents about their after-school adventure, instead, they spent hours jamming the minerals into bags and hoped these sparkling crystals would bring them riches.
Laura’s imagination ran wild as she dreamed she wore a gorgeous flowered dress and a golden crown adorned her head. She and her family stepped into a white carriage with two beautiful white horses and they paraded around the town as she waved at the adoring crowds.
After they collected the minerals and filled their bags, they lugged them into the assayer’s office and, of course, the assayer, with a sad look on his face, told them it wasn’t gold. They slumped and groaned out of the office feeling depressed. Laura believed the pyrite was gold but, in a spiritual sense, don’t let the fake reasoning and beliefs of today fool you. Gold has substantial value but the Word of God has far greater value and belief in falsehoods has eternal consequences.
This writer believes there are three types of people in America today: Those who believe there is no God; those who believe the truth of the Bible; and, those who believe there are many ways to heaven.
Belief in this fallacy is like Fool’s Gold and for the believer and nonbeliever alike, it is a lie straight from hell. In this day of political correctness and new age theories, many Christians fall for this reasoning because of the belief God is love and would not send anyone to hell. I want to state without hesitation: God does not send us to hell. We send ourselves by not accepting the great gift He offers. God is love and that is why He reaches out to each one of us to make the most important decision we will ever make. The Holy Spirit nudges us to accept the gift but we make the final decision. If we decide to reject His offer of grace, then we have rejected Him and, therefore, His precious blood cannot cover our sins.
Our president believes no one will go to hell as stated in a Chicago Sun-Times article in 2004 and reiterated in 2009. He and many others have forgotten or choose to ignore two important verses: “I am the way, the truth and the life: No one comes to the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) and, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). True Christ followers believe only Jesus Christ can save. God shows us in the Bible His plan of salvation: Jesus became man, shed his blood and rose from the dead so we can have eternal life. The idea of many ways to heaven would negate the need for Jesus to become man, dragged away, scourged, lugged to a place of execution, brutally nailed to a cross, and left to die an agonizing death. The plan is simple; accept the gift through faith, yet many reject His saving blood.
Like John the Baptist calling out in the wilderness, I am writing this article heralding the news that this same Jesus plans to return for the Body of Christ, the true believers. To all Christians, the Lord is saying, watch for the signs of His return and when you see them, look up for your salvation is nigh. I see signs happening all around us at a rapid pace. Do you? What do you believe? Do you believe in the folly of man’s ideas or the inerrant word of God, the Bible? According to a poll, seventy percent of Christians today believe there are many ways to heaven. Don’t fall for this lie. Now is the time to come to Jesus because your salvation is in jeopardy if you believe anything else. Invite Him into your heart before it is too late. Now is the time to make a choice and to decide what you believe. Many have walked away from the truth. Repent and come back to your first love, Jesus Christ, the lover of your soul. Then, pray for the lost, pray for those who refuse to see the truth, and pray for those whose eyes Satan has blinded.
Those of us who walk with Jesus must stop worrying about speaking the truth or being preachy because the time is short. We know not the hour or the day but look around you, evil is abounding, the United States has a huge debt and arguing and strife is all around us. Some people are willing to riot, even murder to get what they want. Public violence is never the answer. Europe is seeing unstable times also. The weather is shaking the world and the Middle East is close to chaos. This is no time to diddle around. With the exception of a few evangelists, the churches are silent and we, the true believers, must pick up the slack. We should be speaking to family and friends about these frightening times. The Holy Spirit will lead us to the lost in our own neighborhoods and the lost souls all over the world desperately need us to pray for their salvation. This writer has a burden for the lost and hopes you will join in the quest to populate heaven.
