Psalm 1277

At the sound of Your voice
the heavens came into being.
Each star perfectly placed
by the palm of Your right hand.
You are the giver of peace
and teacher of goodness
Who leads us down correct paths to follow.
O, that we were not a stubborn people!
That we were a people who heed Your warnings,
Whose hearts were not cold as ice,
and whose necks were not as unbending as steel!
If only we could see the obvious
which has been right before us since birth.
If only we could hear, Your written message
then admit what we have heard.
That we might not be caught off guard
when You take action and
Your predictions come to pass
we would not be refined
in the furnace of suffering and chained
to calamity and destroyed by catastrophes
that rise at the blink of an eye.

Now I shout with the voice of a trumpet blast:

O, that we were a people
that recognizes and respects authority
and who works well at out jobs
as if we were working for You, yourself, O Lord,
that we may not be stricken
by disciplinary action or poverty.
O, that we were a people
who follows the teachings of our mothers and fathers
that we may not suffer the loss of a child
or those we love.
And O, that we were a people who loves our neighbors
as we love ourselves, and who did not murder
that we may reap the reward of knowing true love.
But we are a stubborn people!
Declaring ourselves self-sufficient.
Calling ourselves kings and queens
living life seeking out lavish riches,
worshiping things created by hands of men,
and things created by You, Father.
In doing so we deny Your very existence.
O, that we were a people
who lacked of complaining and
strayed from arguing
that we may actually have a chance
to find the meaning of peace.
O, that we were a people
who treats others the way we want to be treated
and not treat them as they treat us.
If only we could take notice the need to cry
for our sins and the sins of others
that more could come to know salvation
in humbling ourselves before You, O Lord,
and know the meaning of forgiveness
in the name of Jesus Christ.
May we become Your people in You, O Lord.
Amen.
