After about 15 months of becoming a Christian I got a job in Social Work. I was one of two or three carers allocated to six boys and two girls aged 16 years to about 24. I call them boys and girls for now though they were young men and women. All had learning difficulties. The work was in a residential home aiming to improve their life skills and basically come alongside them and help them in day to day living.
In summer we went to Minehead, a seaside resort. It was a trip organised by my workplace. So a few workers and myself went as drivers and carers. As well as some of the people we were looking after. When we got there, some boys who had learning difficutlies were allocated to my accommodation. They had separate rooms to me and I had my own bedroom.
One night in my sleep an angel of God came to me. He looked fierce and wore what looked like chest gear I would associate with God's priests in olden days.
The message was clear. He was there to protect those people who had learning difficulties. I was partly glad because visions were rare to me as I was early on in my faith life.
But also partly annoyed with God who was the same God who sent a being from heaven to frighten me somewhat, even briefly. I thought it was understood by Him that I was beyond reproach so why send a messenger to tell me not to harm those kids when I had no intention of harming them at any point. The overall experience was good however.
I learnt a few things. It gave me insight into how much God loves and cares for those people. I have never told any of them this nor my social work colleagues. God is much wiser than me and puts a lot of thought and purpose in his messages.
