It’s not uncommon to accumulate junk over the years. And if you have an attic, much of it has probably found its way up there. In comparison one’s spiritual atmosphere can also get cluttered with junk too, clogging up one’s ability to even hear from God. Often the irony is that its what’s going on in your spiritual atmosphere that manifest what’s happening to you in the natural. Is that worth doing some spring cleaning in the spirit?
Perhaps you have a big black bag of unforgiveness lurking in the attic of your spirit and its begun to fester and drip acid upon your health. Maybe some emotional baggage is corrupting your ability to focus and concentrate. Or that naughty little secret that you’ve become addicted to is robbing you of peace and joy and your temper is spiraling out of control. Or perhaps bitterness has enflamed and ruptured into a cancerous tumor.
Our spiritual atmosphere also reflect the seeds planted in our hearts and minds that will bare fruit – good or bad. Perhaps unrepentant sin has begun to cause you grief and embarrassment. Your mindset has become more negative than positive. Remember, “If we regard iniquity in our hearts, the Lord will not hear our prayers.”
If you find yourself plagued with troubles perhaps its time to clean out the attic of your spiritual atmosphere. A major role that we play in this process is simply acknowledging and confessing our sins unto repentance before the Lord. “If we confess our sins, the Lord is faithful and just to forgive and cleans us from all unrighteousness.” Ask Him to reveal any wrong mindsets that have strongholds to your detriment. Then begin a regimental habit of Praise and Thanksgiving to God. When God is magnified, everything else must adhere and de-magnified.
If you’ve allowed a molehill of junk to turn into a mountain of trouble, what happens to mountains when God shows up? They tremble and quake and are leveled. If your thought life is cluttered with confusion or your physical life is plagued with drama or sickness, its time to start cleaning out the attic of your spirit life.
Reading God’s word will renew your mind to the things of God. The word of God is a purifier and the only weapon with which to fight in the spirit. Its time to think on it and speak it out loud to impact that jungle that has entwined itself upon you and may now be reaping anxiety and depression in your life. The word of God is a two-edged sword that can cut away those choking vines from your mind.
If you want the Lord to show up and start leveling some of those mountains in the attic of your spirit, then start Thanking and Praising Him. “We enter into His presence with Praise and Thanksgiving.” Daily reading of the Word will sharpen your spiritual senses.
What is lurking around in the attic of your spirit that could be reeking havoc in your life? One should endeavor to tend to the spirit life as they would a garden to maintain sweet communion with God.
