SCOTTISH TEA TIME...WHEN I WAS A LITTLE LAD

When I was a little lad
Many moons ago
Mother used to make us tea
How we loved it so

There we learned that little trick
To make our tea brew stretch
Leave the old bag in the pot
As you a new one fetch

The trouble as the day progressed
Was the pot was getting heavy
Tea bags would break and end up in
Our cups which were stir ready

So floating to the top at times
Small pieces of the leaves
Would often bring a distaste to
The liquid of our dreams

A wee small bit of carnation milk
Giving it some colour
Then to one's lips to revel in
The taste that was like none other

Scottish tea we used to say
Part of our heritage the same
I guess we just kept adding bags
To live up to our name!
