Egypt has been in the news a lot lately and it has caused me to do some thinking and there are a couple of points I would like to share with my readers. For everybody who does not know; in Egypt they are rioting in the streets and the government has had to send out tanks to control the crowds; several people on both side have lost there lives. The rioters’ claim they want freedom from the present government and claim they want democratic elections, I will talk more about this later.
What triggered the rioting is the news that another African country, Tunisia had a revolution and kicked out their tyrannical dictator. There was very limited play of this on the Egyptian television, but the internet exploded with blogs asking the people to take to the streets to protest the present Egyptian leader. In turn, this caused the Egyptian government to shut down the internet in Egypt. This is my first point. The action of the Egyptian government shows what I said in my very first blog. The internet is the mission field of today like China was in the 1800’s. You see people getting more information now from the internet than TV or newspapers (in fact most of the daily news in America have scaled down or closed their doors, only the big papers are left and they are hurting). This is why most tyrants take over the TV, radio and papers and have them run by the government so they can spread their propaganda. On the internet individuals post their own ideas, so the only way the government can control that is to just shut the internet down.
This is why I am so excited in my yearly updates about how many different countries my blog is being read in. I am able to get into countries where Missionaries are not allowed or are very restricted. For example, I have people on my e-mail list in Iran, Korea, Vietnam, and several in African countries.
It is so important that the internet is up around the world, and allowing the free exchange of ideas both good and bad. I heard one Christian show promote the closing down of the internet because, “The Muslim Brotherhood” one of the more vocal groups in Egypt, was using the internet. I will have to agree with Chuck Colson on this point that the free exchange of ideas is a God given right; we say that in our Constitution and Bill of rights. If the internet is shut down as some of our Christian brothers are asking, it would stop this free exchange of ideas and stop the gospel of Christ. Plus, it would allow the dictators of the world to literally brain wash the people of their land by spoon feeding them their propaganda. This is what Nazi Germany did 70 years ago and we have already seen that lesson from history. Please go back and read my blog on “The boy with the Striped Pajamas,” or see the movie, it was very scary.
This brings me to the second point about Egypt and it is the end time possibilities. I am no prophet like in the Bible, but history and what the Bible says has me on my knees praying an awful lot right now. Right now Egypt is on good terms with Israel. This is because of a peace treaty they signed in 1979. Although I was young before that treaty was signed, I remember the fighting between Israel and Egypt. There were several wars between the Arabs and Israel after Israel became a nation in 1948. In these wars Egypt was always the leader the other Arab countries were not strong enough yet then. If Egypt changes governments to one that is against Israel like before 1979, Israel will be surrounded by unfriendly governments. If Egypt reverts back to being aggressive against Israel this could easily lead up to what I would call end time scenarios.
Let me explain more by backing up and looking at the group I have already talked about, “The Muslim Brotherhood.” This group was started in Egypt in the 1920’s its purpose being to (lack of a better term) evangelize the Muslim faith. That sounds okay, but you look into them more and discover they believed in doing it violently. The group was never very popular till the Nazis came along and pumped a lot of money and training into them. The Nazi wanted them to help remove the Jews from the area any way possible and they became very successful at this. This is the same group that is very active today in Egypt, with the internet stirring up the people for a new government and free elections. They also want this because they want to bring their candidate forward and get him elected. If their person gets elected he will make Egypt ruled by Muslim law and it will be run by clerics like Iran and several other Muslim countries of the area. A Muslim cleric would end the peace treaty and possibly start a war.
Let me explain one more thing, the Muslim faith says that anybody that is not of their faith is an infidel. According to the Muslim faith, an infidel has no right to live if they will not convert to the Muslim faith; therefore it is their job to kill you if you no not believe. Just like Christianity, there are several different versions of their faith. And with that there are different ideas on how they are to convert people. The most radical beliefs advocate proselytizing through terror and power; others in more subtle ways, like talk and rhetoric and slowly becoming a majority. This is happening in a lot of European countries as we speak. The German chancellor gave a speech two weeks ago about how multiculturalism failed in Germany and one of the main reason is the Muslims.
I do not mean to scare people, but we must wake up to what is happening. I believe Egypt is one more piece of the puzzle being put into place so that our Lord Jesus Christ will return. I have to tell you it will continue to get harder and harder to be a Christian and persecution will become greater and greater. All the more for me to say Maranatha (come quickly Lord).
